Someone is selling a motherboard and apparently linked images from <a href="http://www.2cpu.com/">http://www.2cpu.com/</a> to their auction at eBay. 2cpu.com found out about it and switched the images. <img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2002/20020910-ebaylink1.jpg" /><br /><br />I've included the rest of the screenshots in the thread just in case the auctioner figures this out and removes the links. &lt;!><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2002/20020910-ebaylink2.jpg" />

Just curious...didn't I see this earlier today, for about 3 minutes?

Was it pulled for any particular reason? If so, why is it OK now?

Inquiring minds want to know....

Yup. I like to save the OT posts till the end of the day and I messed up the timestamp.

Whatever you do, don't ever link to any images hosted on www.somethingawful.com. Lowtax has an, ahem, unique way of handling such situations...

Someone once tired to pass off one of www.tech-report.com articles as their own. They even linked the images straight off tech-report's servers. Tech report hit back with the pictures of the kid (Damage Jr. at the bottom of this pic) http://www.tech-report.com/store/

(I can't seem to find the original article about it - but it was the same idea - lots of funny pics linked to the rip-off merchants.)

TOO FUNNY!!!!
This will become standard procedure where I work, we have that problem every once in a while. I am getting my pics ready.... :-)

All the publicity will probably help his auction.

Not likely... the auction is now listed as over with no bids.

BTW, my German is just good enough to get the gist of the seller's comments upon finding out "his" pictures had been toyed with. The key word is "Künstlerpech" -- which I *think* means something like "manufacturer's snideness".

I don't have any examples, but you can try it (at your own risk). Just link directly to an image on somethingawful.com, on a page (probably a forum) where it will get lots of traffic.

Then, sit back and wait for Lowtax to notice, and be ready to take your link down, lest the moderators do it for you... :)

Actually, that was one of the planned benfits of SA hosting.. customize the image that appears when someone steald your bandwith.

Lowtax usually changes it to the goatse guy.

It started and ended the same day, he or ebay pulled it

Then DEFINITELY don't do any linking from here... I don't think Jason will like the goatse picture showing up in his forums...

At least a certain image that was even WORSE hasn't shown up yet... yes, there are worse pictures out there than that! 8O

OK, I'm missing the joke. What is "goatse"? (My dirty mind is thinking "goat sex", but I don't know.)

Another humorous trick for bandwidth stealers would be to make the image file something huge (say 100MB if your ISP will allow it). While funny images are great, having to wait forever to download an image will probably get people mad at the page owner and they'll leave without bidding or bookmarking the page.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha I cant believe we are talking about the goatse picture, i never knew it was so widespread (no pun intended  ). The only reason that I know of it is because of nasty pranks pulled on me be friends.

I almost choked on my lunch the first time I saw that. I was at work and a "friend" had e-mailed me a link to that photo. Part of my choking was the content of the photo; the other part was anger that he'd send me stuff like that at work. 8O

OK - I don't want to know - in fact - I think I already know a lot more about this subject than I want to.

From the context it origianlly sounded like what 2CPU or tech-report had done, but it obviously is not. Forget I asked.

What 2CPU did was funny, what SOMETHINGAWFUL does is not...

Enough said! I hate the thought of a youngster stumbling accross those photos. Why don't we drop the conversation about SOMETHINGAWFUL.

I read with interest this story and thought people might be interested in what was written by the poor unfortunate.

He wrote after his mistake was made known to him:

Sorry für die unangenehmen Striften im Bild, ich habe mich in ein neue Gebiet der HTML Programmierung hinein gewagt und dabei übersehen, daß ich mit einem fremden Link die Bandbreite eines anderen belaste. Künstlerpech. Wird nicht mehr passieren. Sorry noch einmal. Ich lege mir eine eigene Kamera zu.

Which translates to (to the best of my knowledge) :?
"Sorry about the unpleasant captions on the image, but I had been trying out some new HTML programming and wasn't aware of the fact that I was actually stealing somebody else's bandwith. Hard luck, I promise it will never happen again, please forgive me. I'll buy my own camera now. "

The next posting some hours later begins with:
Obwohl ich mich für den Anfängerfehler höflichst entschuldigt habe, bleibt der Eigentümer der Bilder uneinsichtig......

Which means:
"Although I've apoligised for my mistake, the owner of the images remains unforgiving"

Although I admit to having problems with word "uneinsichtig", I think it means "to be not understanding". Unforgiving is the nearest word I can think of.

Which is not surprising, since the apology is in German. Anyway hope you don't mind me adding to the discussion.
