Hi
I'm new to the ppc world. Own a Casio E200 and have been waiting to get a bluetooth enabled phone. I can't tell from the literature what the difference is between the T68M (as on T-Mobile site) and the T68i as I've heard others here talking about. Any help woulf be appreciated.

The T68i has updated software that basically adds functionality for the newer MMS messaging. There is word that users will have the ability to update the T68m to this new software (but probably not until MMS takes off in the U.S.).

The difference in MMS and the SMS standards involves file attachments to the message. MMS can handle photos, files, and video attachments, similar the iMode system in Japan.

There are a couple of other differences to do with GPRS handling and the way data is stored in the phone book. I got a T68(m) because I could get it way cheaper than the T68i (£200 cheaper, actually) and I don't think there's much in the T68i that I miss. Technically, I could get it upgraded since it's a firmware upgrade, there are no hardware changes.

(Unless someone can tell me that GPRS P-Channels are a must-have.)

Oh, there's also a T68mc, which lets you enter Chinese characters. Unless you're Chinese that isn't going to be an issue. :)

Thanks for the input. I am going to wait for the T68i I guess just to minimize the hassle.

How do you get it upgraded on a US T-Mobile account?

Ed, you can get the upgrade one of two ways:

1) Contact SonyEricsson for the closest Ericsson retailer to you (they can do the upgrade for sure, had a phone upgraded this way in Chicago earlier this summer).

2) U.S. T-Mobile retailers should also be able to do this (according to SonyEricsson) but only if you actually bought the phone from them.

I did - less than 2 months ago. I'll stop by their store this weekend.

Ed,

Let me know how that goes. I just bought the T68m myself ($50 after rebate) and I already have a work order to have mine upgraded by Sony Ericcson themselves...

I have to mail it in though, so I'm still considering...

If you are looking at getting a T68i, check out Amazon.com. They have one for $50 after rebates. I am looking at getting one. Does anyone own one and have any opinons on it??
