<a href="http://www.hv.co.kr/hardware/sol-sdcam.asp">http://www.hv.co.kr/hardware/sol-sdcam.asp</a><br /><br />Another interesting piece of hardware that I know almost nothing about because the page is in Korean.. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2002/20020903-sdcamera.jpg" /><br /><br />There are a few facts that are interesting from the English words on that page:<br />• SDIO required (Sorry iPAQ 3800 users - unless HP releases a ROM update that fixes this - is that even possible?)<br />• Still image capture sizes - 800x600 , 640x480 ,400*300 , 200*150,352*288,176*144,90*60 <br />• Digital Zoom - 2X and 4X (hint - never <b><i>ever</i></b> use digital zoom - always use a graphics package to blow an image up)<br />• Video Capture: YUV 4:2:2 (makes it the first video capture camera for a PDA doesn't it?)<br />• Driver support: PocketPC 2000/2002<br /><br />No word on pricing or availability unless it is in the Korean sections of the page. Thanks to Thomas Scheen for the link. Also at that site is something called the <a href="http://www.hv.co.kr/hardware/sol-ikitmulti.asp">i-kit Multi</a> which is another iPAQ CDMA sleeve, and the <a href="http://www.hv.co.kr/hardware/sol-cfcdma.asp">CF CDMA card</a>. Anyone willing to translate these pages? I wonder if this stuff is real or concepts, or great things that will never hit the shores of North America or Europe.

I want one, any idea if they will ship to the US? I looked at the link and it looks as if they are related to Handango but as a Korean site so maybe Handango over here in the states can "swing it" if you call them?! I have the TMobile PPCPE and this is what I have been wating for- that plus a thumb keyboard... any day now... come on...

TMobile PPCPE and this is what I have been wating for
I don't think the XDA/T-Mobile PPC Phone supports SDIO, just like the 3800 iPAQs. Can anyone confirm/deny?

But the Casio CF camera did video, that was my main use of it.

The XDA from T-Mobile is confirmed NOT to support SDIO. I believe this was covered in the review from Tekguru.

All I can say is WOW!! Did you guys see the specs on the i-Kit Multi? Dual Band CDMA, CF slot AND 1500mAh Battery! This is the Ultimate expansion sleeve for me. Now if they ever see the light of day in the US I will be one happy camper.

There are several digital cameras having video capture with

- The iCam (http://www.mobigeeks.com/e/stories.php?story=02/01/04/1584395) (add-on for the Flyjacket) but without sound.
http://www.mobigeeks.com/photosnews/FJ_iCAM_portrait1s.jpg

- The HP Camera for iPaq and Jordana with the mmVision application (http://www.mobigeeks.com/e/forum/showthread.php?s=e14c140b8328a9e883f6aa488614a736&threadid=311) with image and sound (video can be saved as AVI and EXE files) but with a rate of 7fps, it seems to be a processing problem.
http://www.mobigeeks.com/photosnews/200205/mmVISION_iPictures&iVideo.jpg

- The Pretec camera (http://www.mobigeeks.com/e/stories.php?story=02/03/19/0878331) up to 1.3 million pixels, SXGA.
http://www.mobigeeks.com/photosnews/200205/preteccfcamera.jpg

... and more on the market with the Nexicam (sleeve camera) ....

But in this case to be able to add (and I hope soon) a SD digital camera, for instance on the 38xx or 39xx or any device with SD, will be brilliant ...

I never really understand why we need this type of tiny, no quality camera. I would prefer some one make a decent card that can connect my digital camera (for stuff like video conferencing). It is not like you can put this type of camera in the pocket. You have to carry 2 piece anyway.

Makes it the first 'SDIO' anything? Besides SD memory, I don't think I am aware of any other device that works through SD.

This is really cool.

Close, but the Toshiba/Palm SD Bluetooth card was the first SDIO device. 802.11 and other such items are in the works. The big problem is the lack of consistent SDIO support on devices...such as my favorite toy, the mm02/HTC/XDA/PW10/"Wallaby"/"Spaceneedle" etc. etc. :-(

BTW, I am informed by the Master O' Mayhem that the HTC will "see" a SD Bluetooth card if you insert it (but it's still 'unknown') however, iPAQ 3800s can't even see it at all. Hmmm...perhaps there's some hope.

Right - and I was comparing it to all PDA cameras like the CF cameras. Someone pointed out that the Casio did this a year or so ago.

Oh man, I can't believe I forgot about the Toshiba BT SD.

Thanks.

Because I'm a Korean, I tried to translate something in order to quench you guys' thirsty. But, there is no proper answer for that. Instead, I wrote an email to [email protected], who seems like a contact point. I hope he come up here to respond.

Well, they said that they would start to sell from Oct 2002. We will see.

Jisoo.

I contacted them yesterday and the camera doesn't work in any current PDA. They have tested on some beta version of some Taiwan PDA they say.

Apparently the Toshiba SDIO is only compatible with itself :-/ I.e. Toshiba products.

2. Availability &amp; Current issues with SD I/O specification
SDcam will go under mass production by the end of this month or early next month. The major problem we are facing right now is the SD IO specificatioin differences between companies. Toshiba uses its own version and HP is going to use their own version. This is the reason why you were not able to use Toshiba BT SD card on other so called "SD IO ready" slot. Our product uses software stack from another company and HP and MS are partner for this program as well for SD IO specification. We hope HP will launch their SD IO patch soon, so that we can start supplying SDcam to the market. We were able to test the cam with PDA developed by another Korean company. It will require a bit of adjustment and tune-ups but we are very happy with the result. FPS is very satisfactory and can be used for wireless video communication using CDMA2000 1x network as well as WLAN.
The fact is that there is only one PDA that can use our SDcam. We will have to contact each PDA developers for DDK(Driver Development Kit) or they may even use the same standard we used to develop this SDcam. We are talking to various PDA developers for this matter but as a small company in Korea, it's not as easy as we thought. -.-;;;

3. i-Kit Multi and other CDMA expansion jacket from HANVIT I.T
HANVIT I.T was known as the first company to develop the CDMA expansion jacket for iPAQ. Unfortunately, due to regulation and laws, it was very difficult for us to place our CDMA jackets to US or other market. Cost of certification and network inter-operability test is too high for CDMA jackets which only has very limited customers. Due to the same reason, i-Kit Multi will be avialble in Korean market only. If Verizon or Sprint decide to help us out in placing our product in US region, you may see our product in your region but I highly don't believe this will happen in near future.

I hope what I have given you some answers. Trust me, we all want to supply our product to US and European market but in reality, it is very tough without support from the big companies. The first thing that has to be loeared off will be the specification standard issues.

Thank you all for your interests in our product!
