<a href="http://www.winamp.com/">http://www.winamp.com/</a><br /><br />If you're a big digital audio fan, this is a momentous day: Winamp 3.0 is finally released! It's got a VERY good media library tool with some really impressive real-time database query tools. You have to see if for yourself - Windows Media Player practically locked up for two hours when it tried to index my 10,516 audio files over the network, but it only took Winamp 30 seconds or so to get a base index, and it does live sorting of the data as I request different things. This is everything a media player should be! Download it now and try not to remember that AOL owns the company...(although the AOL icon it dumps on your desktop will be a bitter reminder).

Now, if they'd only make a version for Pocket PC...

Windows Media Player is pretty tragic when it comes to playlist support, and there's a nasty skip when it switches between files in a playlist (if you listen to trance or other music that's mixed together, it's a real problem). I think WinAmp could do very well on the platform if they chose to compete.

Let's get some llama butt-whipping on Pocket PC!

FWIW, WMP 9 (desktop at least) will support crossfading. It's beautiful...just got home, and I'm listening to some chillout trance. Works as advertised. The public beta launches on Sept. 4th. Perhaps we'll see some headsup on the forthcoming Pocket PC WMP update then too...

Just tried it and switched right back to v2.x

It doesn't seem that all the bugs haven been ironed out...

I'm in a dynamite-type mood for some audio enhancements. I just hooked up the PC I have in my room to the stereo I have in my room - maybe I'll go and give Winamp a try.

I'm looking for a REALLY great ID3 tagging tool - I need to correct/edit en masse...any suggestions? I've tried several, but they're always "not quite there"...

My tool of choice is MP3 Collector from http://www.collectorz.com

It is more of a cataloging tool than just a tag editor though. I am a big fan of their products generally.

Ran into a minor issue but the price is right and overall it worked great at naming and tagging my mp3s.

Jason, I use Musicmatch 7.2. Not only does it support super tagging, but it also has a feature which allows you to search the net for ID3 info and album art. I think this is only with the purchased version, but not sure. It is great for fixing both ID tags as well as file titles. Give it a try - it is great.

Regards,
Dave

Beyond Security reports a security bug in WinAmp versions 2.76 and 2.79...not a big deal really...probably more of "proof-of-concept" security problem...
http://www.securiteam.com/windowsntfocus/5KP0F0081I.html

...off topic: this security list is a good way to stay on top of security bugs...they almost always have the latest Microsoft exploit out days or weeks before MS itself...

This app has a LOT of potential, but it only works if you have the MP3s from the album collected in one folder - it doesn't support the lookup of individual MP3 files (that's coming "later"). So close, but no cigar! ;-)

I have used the free utility from AnalogX called TagMaster. It does a pretty good job.

ID3 Tag-It. Not the easiest to use, but it edits ID3 1.1/2.0, supports 1.1 to 2.0 conversion (and vice versa), ID3 to Filename (and vice versa), and has a nice batch editing mode (lots of keyboard shortcuts so no mouse required). It also doesn't apply changes until you exit or click "save" (so if you mess things up you're still OK).

I use one called ID3-Tag It... I don't have the URL at hand, but I remember finding it through Google so just do a search for it, i guess.

I am using the AnaogX TagMaster as well and also MPTagger. It's sometimes a bit slow to start in a folder, but then it's easy to switch between songs and make the changes. It also integrates nicely into Explorer for right-click (although it adds a lot of items).

It hasn't been updated in a while, but it does what I need it to do and is free: http://surf.to/mptagger

I use tag & rename. www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

Isn't that horrible in Winamp 3 how when you go to edit a tag you can't use Tab to switch between fields? What good is that? It takes so long! I also agree that not all the bugs are quite worked out yet. It seems to take more system resources too. Anyone else notice that? It doesn't even look as clean as version 2....
