Does anyone have any recommendations on a piece of software that we let me make brief notes on what I do during the day. I basically want to be able to click to add an entry, which will be time-stamped and then record brief notes on what I have been doing.

It would be nice to be able to go back and add categories for later reporting but I could live without that.

The stuff I have seen either seems to be a daily journal type program or a time-recording system designed for billing.

Any thoughts, or should I roll my own with a database?

I am currently using Journal Pro from DSR Tech http://www.dsrtech.net. It is very straight-forward to use, and customer service is excellent! I'm not sure what sort of reporting you need, but Journal Pro's export feature might be a starting point.

CLC Journal from www.crownlogic.com

It has the following good features:

(1) Syncs with the Outlook Journal

(2) Double filtering views (sort by, for example, a category and then by contact or dates)

(3) There is a time stamp and date stamp for ease of use, also a built in timer you can activate which will track the actual time.

I use this all the time to track phone calls, letters sent and received, meetings I've had, visits I've made and conversations I've had; also from time to time make personal journal entries.

Down side is the price ($30) and there have been complaints in the past; but there is are specific instructions for backing up data before installing it. I've run it for almost a month with no problems; it syncs fine and works great.

I've been impressed with TimeTracker:

http://www.rfcons.com/

It is very customizable and flexible.
