I just returned my e310 because it would not work with my SanDisk 128M SD card.

I know that there are others out there where the SanDisk SD card is working for them.

There are also others that are having the same issue that I was having with my e310 and SanDisk.

And emailing back and forth with Toshiba support has returned the same thing, they say some customers are experiencing an issue while others are not; but Toshiba only recommends using Toshiba SD cards.

I am going to get a pocket PC in less than 6 months. So with the new Toshiba offerings and the pda phone, or built in wireless. What is everyone thinking the best deal would be. I have been leaning towards a Pocket PC phone but the reviews haven't been that good, and they all seems to be missing other really good features (Xscale, built in wi-fi, 2 built in card slots) Is it worth it. Or should i just go with built in wi-fi and mutliple card slots and hope the wi-fi gets more and more common around my area? The other option is to not go top of the line the $300 pocket pc offerings are seeming to get better and better, is there that much worth to buy a $600 top of the line that really doesn't add that many features? What does everyone on the boards think?

I was sitting on the fence a long time, about a year. I finally gave in and bought the e310. I love my pocket pc. :D I thought I would use it for ebooks. Nah, not yet, although I have a huge library. I never thought I would use Avantgo. Every day. I never read newspapers before, but now I get updates from the NY Times and Sporting News, as well as other stuff. Now my commute is used for more than just nodding. I read about the SD problems, so I got a Memorex MMC. Guess what? Not a single problem. And I even used it to restore my data once. Now I just have to watch all the people who get to pay less than I did. :( If you don't need built in communications or 64 megs of RAM, go for it.

I don't understand why people just don't buy the Vox. I mean, at staples it's 300, then minus a 40 dollar coupon, it's 260. Then only advantages the e310 has is its size, case (metal), and support (not discontinued). Vox has dual slots, better sound, and it's resonably small. Though some people may need longer battery and jog dial. But the dual slots on a well built case and with the best Joypad IMHO (e310 joypad is flimsier), I would get the Vox...

Read the fine print under the heading "Promotional Certificate Offer" and you will see that you get even more off. 8O

When you buy a PDA or handheld that costs:

Under $200 and receive a $10 promotional code
$200 to $400 and receive a $25 promotional code
Over $400 and receive a $50 promotional code

To receive your Promotional Certificate, simply select an eligible new Amazon.com PDA or handheld and add it to your Shopping Cart. Upon checkout, they'll store your name and purchase total in their system and then send your promotional certificate by e-mail after your purchase is complete.

Is there any solution for getting on-line with the 310? I love the form factor and the price with rebate and free SD card is very tempting but I do need it for the occassional dial in to my firm's RAS to connect.
Is there any alternative to the CF modem that I currently have that could work with the 310?

You could use the Psion IrDA travel modem. It works with Pocket PCs.

$200 to $400 and receive a $25 promotional code
Over $400 and receive a $50 promotional code
And yet the fine print actually states you'll receive a $50 code, even though the unit costs less than $400 and the chart indicates $25.

"Special Offer: Buy this and get a $50 mail-in promotional certificate via e-mail. See details. Offer expires August 25, 2002. See details."

This is in addition to the previously mentioned $50 mail-in rebate, free shipping, and free 32MB SD card.

What does this bring the price of just he E310 down if you deduct what you would have paid for the 32 meg card (admittedly only $30 or so now) the $303 bottom line price, the $25-50 credit, you are down to below the price of the Vox, maybe near the level of the $210 Vox's sold this Spring. WOW.

What could this mean? Well, sales of PDAs have been weak, but Toshiba has been surging. Yet, Amazon has enough of these to push them like this. Could this mean that the Dell rumoured PDA is expected sooner than this Fall? Could it mean an imminent arrival of the $300 Ipaq 2200? Will that model have 65k color? A MMC slot? Sleeves? Something must be up.

I'm still on the fence until they can offer me a good PocketPC (barebones ARM, maybe a bit more for an Xscale) for $200 (and I'm talking Canadian baby... I can hear everyone gasping in unison :)).

At their current prices, I still think most PocketPC customers are niche tech-geeks (no offense intended; I'm one of them, just a very poor one). At their current price, I'd have to have 2+ GB of storage (and why not... check out the size of the iPod with 5-20GB of storage, and that thing's what, a year old already?) and a higher resolution than 320x240 (maybe 480 or 512, but preferrably 640) and a bigger screen to accommodate. Starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn't have posted in this thread, hehe ;). Don't nobody hurt me please!
