IR link cable?

Hello,

Is it possible to directly link the transmitter and detector between two IR ports?

Here's my problem: The Audiovox Maestro (pda1032) and Micro Innovation's Pocketop keyboard communicate via IR. In theory, this is great...no wires and both are extremly portable. However, once you start using the setup, things become really annoying as the two begin to shift positions and IR beam is no longer aligned.

Is it possible to run a physical cable from the IR transmitter of the pocketop keyboard directly to the IR receptor on the maestro pda?

Here is the setup I am planning on building:

Pocketop Led -> 2.5mm miniplug -> cable -> 2.5mm miniplug -> Maestro IR receptor.

I cannot find any receptors on the keyboard so it should only be one-way from the keyboard to the PDA?
