CRN Test Center Sets Up Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Solutions With Small Businesses in Mind

"As the PC, laptops and PDA discovered each other and the peripherals, the office hardware was identified and stored in each computer's Bluetooth management software. Once each device was powered up and the presence of the other Bluetooth-enabled components was established, the network was complete. Altogether, the process of assembling the network took less than seven minutes.
When trying to send files between computers in the Bluetooth network, a connection must be established between the two devices. That task is handled easily via the Bluetooth management software. At the transmitting device, the user simply selects the file to be transferred, chooses the receiving device and then sends the file. The receiving device prompts the user to accept or reject the connection request. Once accepted, the file transmission proceeds smoothly.
Printing a file in a Bluetooth network is done the same way as in a wired LAN. Within the application being used, the user clicks on the print command and then is asked to select a printer. Once the target printer is chosen and the print command is given, the document prints.
To add non-Bluetooth-enabled hardware to its wireless office, the Test Center had to take the extra step of loading the Bluetooth management software and device drivers onto the individual components. But once that was done and the various Bluetooth PC cards, antennas and printer modules were attached to their respective devices, the process of establishing connections between the office hardware was as simple as with the Bluetooth-ready components."
