View Full Version : Mazingo is now one level deep

Some of you Mazingo subscribers may have noticed that your "full" channels no longer give you direct access to the forums. I changed the spidering level to zero, so it hits the opening page only. We're having some problems with spidering clients like Mazingo and AvantGo, specifically as they relate to our ad server. On the 9th the forum root page was hit 35,000 times alone, yet the ad server only dished up the Crucial ad in the discussion forum about 11,000 times. I have to get a handle on why this is happening, and keeping Mazingo and AvantGo contained to the front page will help me to do that. If you have a custom channel set up for AvantGo or Mazingo, please do me a favour and change it to a spidering depth of "zero". It's not like you can read the forums now anyway. <img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif" />

I don't use a custom channel. I'm using Mazingo and chose the PocketPC Thoughts full version and I don't see any settings that will allow me to change the depth level. Does this count?

I've changed the master setting on Mazingo - you guys don't need to change anything yourselves.

Something strange is happening with Mazingo today. The channels I sync usually range in the 3-4mb range. Today, it went up to 36mb! Any ideas as to what could have happened?

TIA!

Sounds like you might have a videoclip or soundbyte attached to one of the channels. I know the TablePC channel has a 14mb (?) video that gets synched with it.

In the early days of Mazingo, many of its channels didn't always format/structure themselves ideally. Nowadays with my chosen channels I haven't really had a problem (either due to the channel sites maintaining a more diligent discipline or Mazingo becoming more intelligent or both).

For example, in the past, once in a while a channel's new article would contain a link to a page on another site. That other site's pages would be multimedia-intensive, and Mazingo would pull in quite a bit of megabytes from that other site (depending on the overall link depth it was pulling). Now, I think Mazingo has more intelligence to filter out off-site pages (though I don't know how exactly).

Last I checked, though, Mazingo custom channels still didn't let you block off-site pages from downloading (only an overall link depth).

Jason,

How is it going on getting a true mobile version ready? My credit card is out and ready to support it.

Thanks!
Bart

We've had a few delays - Chris Edwards is away for 12 days, so we're working on other things...we want to try and launch all the subscriber services at once, or closely together.
