One of the nicest features is a frequently-updated table that lists when the LOOX will be available in various countries and what its estimated cost will be.

Also, how many of you out there pronounce the acronym for the NYDITOT tool as "N-idiot"?

I'm getting closer and closer to ditching my ipaq for this thing. The ipaq has some compelling features over, say, the toshiba but the loox's only weak point seems to be screen size. I'm interested to hear about its battery life.

This is how I always pronounce it, even though I know it shouldn't be. It's definitely one of the worst product names out there. The guy who named it is an YDITOT. ;)

I've always loved the way sections of the IT community have fun with namng products. After all we've had TWAIN (Technology Without An Interesting Name) and the wonderfully recursive WINE (WINE Is Not an Emulator) for years.

Even 'Loox' seems to be a bit of a pun... :wink:

Seriously, any idea on whether or not Fido will be selling these integrated with the eventual phone module? Or (please no) Rogers? If it's Rogers, you can bet it will be jacked through the roof, maybe as much as $1200 or more Cdn. with the GPRS/GSM module

I was surprised to find out the GSM/GPRS isn't built in, and you have to get an external module (incl battery?)... for some reason I was operating under the assumption this was a phone/pocket pc device, and the "pocket pc phone edition" version further adds to the confusion. I do understand the reason for the extra battery though - for some reason GPRS usage on my Motorola P280 really drains the otherwise excellent and long lasting battery. Still, it turns a sleek device into a brick.

Check the news on www.firstloox.org under 26. June. He mentions a guy who used the LOOX and reports 85 percent power left after half a day (I asume he means not 12 hours though) and still 60 percent a couple of hours later. FJ says "up to 12 hours" and with the 1500 mAh battery I wouldn't be surprised if it last much longer than the e740 and even the new IPAQs.

I posted this on BrightHand earlier but thought it relevant here as well:

It looks like Alex Kac is getting around 12 hours battery life with the processsor set on 'fast' and full screen brightness.

He says that half a day of use - 'till around Mid-day - used about 15% of the battery charge. Let's assume that is three hours (9 - 12). One hour of use, therefore, would equal 5% battery drain. Two hours on from that he was at around 60% remaining. So - if we take a fairly pessimistic view - 5 hours of battery use would equal 40% drain. That would add up to 12.5 hours total. Allow half-an-hours worth of battery charge for keeping data intact - we see a 12 hour use at a fast processor speed and full screen brightness.

So - what is medium brightness and power saving mode going to give us? It all looks very promising!

One thing I do know - in a recent laptop test in a UK magazine Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook was the only one that actual came within reach of quoted battery life during real world tests...

Wow....I've read the chart and the Loox will be available in Singapore on July 3rd. Is this right?

I will be in Singapore on that particular day... :D

But the suggested price (approx. $719) is way more expensive compare to the US retail price ($599).... :(
