Has anyone else bought SD and CF cards and found them short of memory to what they are supposed to have ????

I have bought 1 128MB SD and 1 128MB CF card but the SD card only says it's got 121MB while the CF card says it's only got 122MB - is this normal or am I getting done !!!!!!!!!

:!: :!: :!: :!:

Cheers ..... Pete.

This has to do with the discrepancy of 1KB being 1000 bytes or 1024 bytes. Because of the difference in calculations, it appears that you have lost around 6mb off a 128mb card.

SD Cards
A 32MB SD Card provides 32,026,630 bytes. The card requires a protected area of 356,352 bytes that is accessible only by SD Security and a Media Key Block (MKB) area of 1,114,112 bytes that is only used to store media keys. The FAT file system requires 500,000 bytes. After allocating space for these components, the formatted storage area is 30,052,864. The card reports available storage area of 29MB.

CF Cards
32MB Compact Flash (CF) provides 32,026,630 bytes. The Compact Flash (CF) requires space for a FAT file system but does not need space for SD Security or MKB. After allocating space for the required component, the card reports an available storage area of 30.5MB.
