This is utterly off-topic, but I laughed so hard when I saw this that I simply HAD to pass it along. <img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif" /> Someone took a video capture of a segment from a Conan O'Brian show, and it involves a sarcastic dog puppet paying a visit to the line of people waiting to see Star Wars on opening night in New York. I'm a big Star Wars fan myself, and I loved Episode II, but the people in this clip are so far over the edge, they fell of when they were twelve and didn't notice. &lt;!><br /><br />The original download location is <a href="http://students.washington.edu/dkamas/triumph.wmv">here</a>, but seeing as it's part of a student account I think you'd all destroy his bandwidth and get him in trouble. I've uploaded it to my server, so you can <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/files/triumph.wmv">download it here.</a> It's a whopping 17 megs in size, so be patient - it's worth it.<br /><br />There's <a href="http://www.javatron.com/beerwars/">another Star Wars spoof</a> that you may find amusing: it was actually created and filmed in my home town of Calgary, and looks hilarious, but I can't view it because I refuse to install Quicktime. May the Force be with you, always.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/beerwars.jpg" />

LOL! You aren't the only one. QT and RealOne will never be on my PC. :D

Thanks Jason, this made my day ;). I thought they were pretty good-natured about the whole thing, which is nice because I don't have to feel guilty about laughing along.

We had a census in the UK last year and they left an "other religion" box. I can't remember exactly but some huge number of people said "Jedi". The rule was that anything over a certain percentage would be officially recognised as a legitimate religion. What do you know - the Jedi's made it - so the Jedi's now really exist (in the UK at least)! :D

I always install the big three/four (WMP + DivX Pro, RealOne [Gold], QT Pro) on every PC. Real is the only one that really takes manual effort to go through all the preferences and turn off the always-on background stuff. Is it just me or has Apple got an exlusive lock on Sorenson's excellent codec (I remember reading about a recent legal spat about that)?

I do the same with all the major IM (though I don't usually let any of them automatically start up at boot-up). Seriously, I don't see what's wrong with installing other media players, otherwise you can't play some stuff out there...?

Triumph is one of the best sketches on Conan. I was watching that night and I knew that it was gonna be good. What's worse though is that those people are asking for it. And what the heck was the Lord of the Rings guy doing there? Did he get lost or what?

I might get fired for laughing so loud, but it was worth it.

I don't watch Conan very often, so I didn't realize this was a regular thing, but if you liked the SW clip, check this out:

My beef is with Quicktime: they offer a free player, but nearly every time you load the damn thing it has a splash screen pimping the full version. Is Apple that strapped for cash, they need to hassle me? I refuse to click through that every friggin' time I watch a Quicktime version. Look Jobs, either offer a FREE version that really is FREE (no nags) or don't offer anything at all and try to get people to buy your commercial player.

Haven't seen Episode II yet, but Episode I (Phantom Menace) was a flop! The plot was uncompeling and poorly written The characters were stereotypical and annoying. I mean, come on....Anakin Skywalker (the future Darth Vader) built C3PO? R2D2 saves Queen Amadalla's life from the Federation attack on her shuttle? Give me a break! Who the hell wrote this script? Was Lucas drugged when he dreamed this up?

And Jar Jar Binks.....I wanted to walk out of the theatre less than 2 minutes after he made his "debut". His character was a shameless grab for the youth market. Why not have Barney the Dinosaur in the movie as well? I especially loved his first line in the movie where he says..."Exqueeze me"...a rip off from Wayne's World . And how do you like the part where OBI 1 and his master bring Jar Jar along to be their navigator to pilot their underwater craft. But HE NEVER NAVIGATES THE DAMN CRAFT! He just bitches and moans from the co-pilot's seat while OBI 1 does the driving.

LOL! No thanks, I'll wait for this movie to come out on DVD.

#4 movie of all time in box-office gross. http://movies.yahoo.com/hv/boxoffice-alltime/rank.html

Not exactly a flop. Doesn't say anything about the quality, but it was not a flop. For a flop, see anything by Kevin Costner. ;-) I didn't hate PM. LIked much of it actually, but it probably would not be in my personal top 50.

By flop, I was referring to the quality and overall integrity of the film.

It was a hit at the box office only because it was hyped like there was no tomorrow. And because Star Wars fans will go to any movie that has "Star wars" in the title.

I agree, Part 1 left a LOT to be desired. Part 2, however, is seriously entertaining - trust me.

So, doesn't someone have to be dead to be reincarnated? :)

I saw this vid a few days ago, and while it is completely hillarious, I thought it was a blantant rip off of Ed the Sock... to the point where it is almost sue-able material. Right down to the cigar.

Canadians should know who Ed the Sock is... :)

Thanks for hosting the clip, Jason! Very funny indeed.

A bad movie can still be entertaining. Lucas is a good producer but IMHO, he should have left the directing (and possibly writing) to someone else! (Lucas has only directed 15 movies in his life and his last universally well regarded one (episode IV in 77) was 25 years ago... )

Episode 1 did stink. Weak story, and is there anyone at all who DID like Jar Jar? Everybody hated that character. Episode II, however, was fantastic. Great effects and very entertaining. Im going to go see it a second time, and I never say that about a movie. Jar Jar was in this one as well, but at least Lucus got the message by limiting how much Jar was in the movie and keeping its mouth shut most of the time.

As far as that Conan episode is concerned, aces, man! Aces! That was so funny! Its amazing some people are still like that clear into their adult life. Its like high school revisited. Or maybe whats really amazing is that so many of those people are congregated together in one place at one time. That Lord of the Rings guy was unbelievable! Filet of Fish! ROTFL! Oh man, I hurt just remembering that. Has to be one of the best segments on Conan, ever.

I dont know about TV programming outside the states, but theyre going to be playing again tonight where Im at, at 3am. This time, I have to tape it!

Everyone's certainly entitled to their opinion. Here's mine:

I was disappointed with Episode I, primarily because after so many years since Return of the Jedi, I just expected more. I didn't care for Jar Jar at all, but I can kind of understand (and appreciate) Lucas' desire to make these movies entertaining for kids and to do that he needed to keep them at a PG rating and include some cutesy entertaining characters.

As for Episode II, I really disliked it. Maybe I was expecting more. All of the early reviewers said that Star Wars fans who were disappointed with Episode I would feel that this was better. Well, I'm a Star Wars fan who was disappointed with Episode I but felt that Episode I was better. Both Episodes I and II suffered from very poor dialog/writing, but it seemed like there was more of it here. The romance was flat, both in the writing and acting. Episode I did a fair job of interspersing the boring sections with sections of excitement. The opening scenes with Obi Wan and Quai Gon (however you spell it) doing some lightsaber action, the pod race, and the closing battle with Darth Maul were great. In Episode II, I found the boring, poorly acted, and poorly written scenes to be far too long and often, and the action scenes to be rather unoriginal. The "car chase" scene was unbelievable and not particularly original. Ditto for the arena scene. The closing lightsaber action fell far short of Episode I's Darth Maul action. Don't get me wrong, Yoda was good, but not as good as Episode I. Despite having several well credited actors on the list, only Christover Reeve (sp?) and the actor portraying Jango Fett did a decent acting job (though I don't hold it too much against any of them since it must have been hard with Lucas' poor dialog and having to act in front of a blue screen 98% of the time). Most of the CGI effects were phony-looking to my eye (similar to Episode I)h. I'll post more complaints as they come to me. ;)

You have got to be kidding me...you support the most monopolistic company to have ever existed and their products but the nag screen bothers you that much. Sheesh. I can understand not wanting to use real. Thi thing has been out for years and is STILL a piece of junk but Quicktime is very high quality software. Microsoft Media player is just now approaching its capabilities.

Seriously, I don't see what's wrong with installing other media players, otherwise you can't play some stuff out there...?

Puh-lease, Episode II had the worst acting and plot of any movie I've seen in a LONG time. The special effects were great and the fight at the end was good other than that it was a horrible movie.

Software is either free or it isn't - but nagging the user every single time they load your "free" software is insulting. If Internet Explorer or any other Microsoft product did that to me, I wouldn't be using it either.

That sucks... I saw it on a digital projector (TI DLP), so the hard drives would have had to blow for the ending to be cut off.

I can't say enough good things about digital projection: I've watched Ice Age and Star Wars Episode II on a digital projector, and both came through crystal-clear, with great colours, and none of the problems of a reel-to-reel projector. They were so clear, I wondered if I was watching them on my DVD player at home (well... more like Ultra-DVD player - there was absolutely no artifacting on the digital projector).

Jedi never made it as an official religion. There was never any chance that it would. All that happened was a lot of people fell for a very weak chain letter. You'd think that "quick - send this email to all your friends" would set a few alarm bells ringing.

Wow - that's one thing I'd love to see someday...a movie on a digital projector. Zero of those in Calgary, although I'm scared to see how much I'd have to pay for THAT. Two tickets at a "normal" theatre last night to see Spiderman for the second time? $27.50 CND. @(#()#*@)@

I paid the normal admission price, which was Cdn$12.50. They don't charge extra to watch it on the digital projector. The only digital projectors showing Star Wars in Canada are in Vancouver, Toronto, and... Waterloo, Ontario :)

You know that by saying the plot to episode II sucked, you're saying the plot to the whole Star Wars story sucks. I was so inspired by epII that I went home and researched it all and have much more respect for all 5 of the movies. That is one of the most well thought through and complex stories I've ever heard. I have no clue how you can say that it is a bad plot.
