<a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/default.asp">http://www.laridian.com/ce/default.asp</a><br /><br />Laridian, the maker of the most popular Bible reader for Pocket PC's, probably updates their software more often than you think. If you look at their revision history for Pocket Bible, you'll find they updated it in January, October and November of 2001, and again this past weekend on March 29, 2002. They have also updated Daily Reader and Naves Topical Bible, and probably a few products and versions I don't own. :-)<br /><br /><img src="http://www.laridian.com/ce/images/HP545Hands.gif" /><br /><br />If you own their software, head over there and log in to your account and press Download. It will tell you if you have new versions waiting for you. You can also check out <a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/pbversions.asp?backPage=catpocketbible">the revision history</a> to see if any of the updates or fixes interest you, then set up a recurring task to remind yourself to check back every three months or so.<br /><br />They also have the English Standard Version (ESV) ready. Doesn't read much differently from the NIV, but includes the nearly 50,000 cross-references and footnotes you would find in printed ESV Bibles. Hmmm.... How much space is left on my 128MB SD card? ;-)

 Maybe they've just taken this humility thing a step too far!

It's a top product and they have plenty to be pleased with in their products.

Anyone interested in the newely released Laridian edition of English Standard Version can get more information about this translation at:

http://goodnews.gospelcom.net/home/esv/

This is a literal translation of the Bible, which reads very well, IMHO. And yes, it contains all cross-references and footnotes of the printed edition.

Cheers.

Thanks for the heads-up Ed. Now all Craig needs to add is highlighting to Pocket Bible and I will be the happiest man on earth :)

um... doesn't the bible stay pretty much the same from month to month? I don't know much about that kind of stuff but are you sure they're not giving you a run for your money?

The updates are free of charge. The bible software actually costs less than $20 (I think I paid ~$10 for it when I 1st acquired it last year using an electronic discount code they e-mailed to customers). :)

Pocket Bible is the name of the software, and gets updated for new features. For instance, the 3/29 update was to support the ESV footnotes and crossreferences. Daily Reader had to be updated likewise. Bible versions are updated when errors or glitches are found. I've seen odd page breaks, words not being found, etc. I always report them and 99 times out of 100, it is fixed in an update.

No, they are not changing the text. ;-) See Rev. 22:18. :-D

You must have made an impresion 8O . At about 4:30 pm I recieved an email from Laradian outlining there updates. Don't know why but it went to my junk-mail folder in Outlook. Great software, but I don't remember previous update notices.

In a way this is kind of funny. Ed seems to be complaining about Laradian not telling him about updates today, and just above it he is complaing about Handango telling him about updates. Personally I'd like to know about Laradian updates, and get more email from them, I thought I'd sign up to, and was suprised to find out about there updates here. Ed Sorry if you disagree with me, it's just my outlook on things, and I'm not try to say what you think (because I don't know), just my take on it.

I have PocketBible and like it a lot. One of the features that I like and have used for another application, is their "note" editor that lets you generate HTML code with a menu based editor. It sticks in the HTML code tags for you from a menu (ie click on List Item and it sticks in &lt;li> &lt;/li> with the cursor ready in the middle of the tags. I would like to have this editor as a seperate application - my have to write one myself.

The Handango email isn't "updates" - you have to see one to know what I mean, but it's just like a "flyer" - apps, apps, and more apps, not updates to the app you bought. 8)

Hi Ed,
Good call on the update. Just happend I got the latest on Saturday night ready for Easter Sunday.

It's great software and nice to have the Bible to read in down times or when you need a reality check!

I do want updates about new versions. Usually this comes from the author. I don't want the flyer Handango is using, which is apparently from the same database as the update list is from. As I said, I got the flyer from two companies who's software I didn't even buy from handango. It isn't the spam alone, it is they way they got it to me. :-(

On the Laridian updates... still nothing in my email box. Seatec - I wonder if you have a product that had a serious enough fix to warrant the email that I don't have. :?:

I wish you would. I have never been real successful with their editor once you get out of non-standard stuff like basic formatting. It is a real pain (IMHO) to reference your own notes in a separate file from a Pocket Bible note. I wind up making all of my notes in Pocket Word and then later copying them over to Pocket Bible and tediously formatting them with the HTML helper.

Last night, I was happy to get notification of the update and ESV soon after I read the article. I've been reading through the ESV since the beginning of the year, and am now glad to have it usable on my dailyreader program (a great add on to Pocket Bible). Included was an offer for 25% off for what looks like just yesterday, as well as 20% off any other software.
