<a href="http://www.bizzdev.com/en/downloads/netuse/">http://www.bizzdev.com/en/downloads/netuse/</a><br /><br />As we move towards wireless Pocket PCs, finding the best network client become paramount. While the File Explorer in 2002 has some networking capabilities, it's not the easiest thing to use. BizzDev NetUse, designed for the Pocket PC 2002, looks like a big step towards a more user-friendly network client.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.bizzdev.com/fr/downloads/netuse/NetUse_ss3.gif" /><br /><br />• Connect (through easy domain browsing) and disconnect mapped folders <br />• Show mapped folders as storage card folders to other applications <br />• Set the default network domain <br />• Delete saved network password

:?:

Can you use it to get to a file share via the cradle and AS or the pass through connection?

Now all we need is to be able to open/run files from a network share.

Have you tried this yet? I think it can do that...

I've actually installed it but haven't tried it yet. I didn't see it mentioned as part of the software so I figured it wasn't included. I'm going to try it now and see what happens.

Jason,

You might want to update the description on the main page stating that this app is only compatible with PPC 2002.

Thanks,

I just tried this out, and there are a few problems.

1. Basically all it does it allow you to map different drives simultaneously; once you select one it dumps you into File Explorer (thus the direct opening thing won't work)

2. It doesn't seem to let you map a drive that is more than 1 level deep; for example, I have a share on\\server\users\myname, but the program will only go to \\server\users. This is fine if all of your drives are 1 level down, unfortunately some of the ones I use at work are not.

If I'm wrong about these things or am not using it correctly please correct me, but I seem to have everything set up the right way.

This is the coolest software. I shared all the music on my hard drive and maped it as a folder on my ipaq. Now, with my wireless nic, I have days worth of music comming to my ipaq as I walk around the building!!

The new version of Resco file explorer does the same thing except for the show the \network folder. When you map a network drive in net use it also shows up in the my network in Resco.

Very COOL!!

Not sure if this is suppose to work.. but I am not able to set a Default Domain so you can do browsing. And yes mapping one of your shares will work. You just have soft reset after you have check it in the tools, options area. This works just like netrunner just a bit different gui and of
course browsing. But can get this to work.

I found how you can save your mapped shares to show up in File Explorer, but it still won't directly map to a 2nd level folder beneath a share. Windows 98 did the same thing, but 2000/XP allow you to map to a specific folder under a share. Maybe I'm just spoiled by that.

What I wan't if this developer can do it. Is be able to set or unset a share. For example whne I get home I want my home shares to appear under network and my work shares to go away. Then when I get to work, my work shares show. Pretty much I don't want to retype shares after I disconnect them. I hope the developer is looking at this thread.

This application uses the windows network component included in Pocket PC 2002 devices, and is not compatible with Pocket PC 2000.

The \Network folder (the name can be different as it is localised) is hidden by default and can be shown by checking the box in the options.
Basically the WinCE Network Redirector create this folder to contain all the mapped folders, this folder is also similar to a storage card for applications, so your mapped folder are just like 1st level folders on a storage card.

The main limitation is because build-in applications are limited in the folders they can browse, otherwise reading and writing to any subfolder of a mapped folder is supported, using the file explorer allows you to open files in subfolders.
Tapping on a mapped folder in the main window of Net Use calls the built-in File Explorer, but it opens directly on the folder you selected, so you don't need to show the \Network folder to be able to browse it.

Also, the networking component of WinCE provides simple map and unmap dialog boxes, but without the network browser and not full-screen.
Because they don't really follow the Pocket PC look and feel, I decided to code my own dialog in full screen and more features for the map and provides the unmap as a tap&hold menu item.

The network browser is based on the default domain you set in the options, it takes your default domain and search for computers available in that domain, then for folders available on these computers, I haven't found a way to seach for all the available domains on WinCE.

[Cruzer]> do you have a real NT4/ADS Domain on your network or is it a newsgroup ?

vetteguy> you can only map to \\server\share, this is a limitation of the Windows network on WinCE.

Thank you, I didn't realize this was a limitation of the OS.

The latest version of Resco explorer does this same thing very well, from within Resco. Once established as a share, you can open files on the network. All on PPC2002 of course. And, No, it does not work sitting in the cradle. The pass through function allows you to do IE to the net, attach to mail servers (Pop3/Imap) and actually lets Terminal Server Client attach, (even to the connected machine for some reason), but does not allow network connections. For that you need to be a direct host on the network, wired, wireless, or dial in.

:?: For people who can't setup the default domain in the options, can you please send me the following information by email :
- device (manufacturer, model, ram)
- kind of network connection
- kind of domain (NT4 or AD ?)
- PDC/AD server software (version, service pack, language)
- name of you domain (if not too confidential)
- if you enter a domain in the options, tap (ok), go in options again, does it keep it ?
- if it does, does it display the name of the domain in the network browser ? or what isn't working ?
- any more information you think could be important to track down this issue

Thanks for your help,
