Can anyone substantiate this? That's the Toshiba program manager on the screen, and the devices look legit (click on the thumbnail image below for a high-res photo). If this is really coming out in April, wow...the E740 looks like a beautiful companion for my Fujitsu laptop!

Toshiba E740 : 64MB
• 3.5" TFT 16bit display
• Adds embedded wireless 802.11 or BT
• Two expansion slots: SD and CFII
• Intel XScale® 400MHz vs. StrongArm® 206MHZ
• Expansion pack with USB and video out
• Second add-on battery option

Toshiba E310 : 32MB
• Great Color Display
• 3.5" TFT, 16bit (64k) color display
• First Toshiba consumer channel entry
• Will have to compete against low-end Palm and Casio offerings
• Could take advantage of Palm's OS shift to support StrongArm®

I think that falls into the "purely random speculation" department.

Maybe being that it is a low end Pocket PC and the new Palm OS device will likely be of similar specs. Really that hasn't been much direct competition between the Pocket PC platform and Palm because they have been on two different levels. When Palm says "LOOK AT OUR NEW STUFF"...Toshiba can say "but look over here as well cause we don't use the Palm OS and have more features then that Palm."

Good eye. Something is not right about these pics.

Given the fact they are definitely running PPC 2000 combined with the fact they are just overall retro looking and ugly in my eyes, my theory is that these are pre-production photos from a year or two ago when Toshiba first announced they would be releasing a Pocket PC. Now someone has found them and is circulating them as the new XScale and consumer models.

This is not to say that the specs on the rumored models aren't true or accurate, Toshiba has already announced a 400MHz XScale model for Q2, I'm just willing to bet that they will not look anything like that photo.

I'd have to agree. That Start Bar is pre-Pocket PC 2000 SP1.

The scroll bar looks messed up too, as if it's off the PPC emulator on a PC. Hmmm ...

Good grief! That isn't even a PPC scrollbar. Is that how that scroll bar looks on the Toshiba's menu app?

And look at the time - 1:20. Clearly the sun is coming in from the wrong angle. ;-) These must be fakes.

One of the devices is a Palm anyway. Pocket PC's do not have a sync button, and the device on the left definately does. I also don't see Toshiba clearly written anywhere on these units.

I must admit after reading your comments that Sherlock Holmes looks like an amateur compared to you guys. How about: "Sherlock Holmes and the PPC Mystery"? :)

hey guys i'm new! but i was checking out the pictures i was wandering, for the cradle? does anyone see a USB port? i think its like the... umm.. what was it, like the e-200, dam it i forgot the name :( anyway they took out the grip runners along the sides and i think also that this looks fake, because i don't see the cable that comesout of the cradle? but judging by the light textures on the top of the right toshiba i am having doubts, either way, check out that port on the left toshiba on the cradle there should be a USB port, and i reacon that the one on the left i think that is expansion packs like the e-200

They could be hoaxes, but they also could be units with screenshots Photoshopped in. That often happens when prototypes are used, esp. if said prototypes aren't working.

yeah maybe so, like when the PS2 was going to come out, everyone wanted to know how the unit would look like, i remember somone told me that a screen will popup from the PS2 displaying you status for memory card and etc. bah he was wrong, anyway we just have to wait and see the out come of the new toshiba and future PPC's, i guess like the PPC industry is blowing off, just like windows did with windows 95

It seems to be generally around now, so I don't think I'm breaking any NDA...but I had confirmation from a Toshiba PPC corporate sales consultant that they are expecting to ship an XScale 400MHz, 64Mb version of the e570 with either integrated Bluetooth or WLAN.

These pictures might be dodgy in some way, but the specs and schedule sound on the mark.
