Action Names from Iambic Software is one of those apps. The president of Iambic, Vidal, jumped into one of his support threads where users were almost <b><i>begging</i></b> for a Pocket PC version.<br /><br />"Please send me an email with specifics as to what you would like to see in an Action Names for PPC if it existed. "<br /><br />If you are a Palm user, past or present, that uses Action Names and you would like to see a version on your Pocket PC, visit the thread and shoot Vidal an email <a href="http://www.iambic.com/forum/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=36">via his profile page</a>. Thanks to Foo Fighter for the link.

why exactly does the ppc need action names? what benefits does action names offer over homegrown apps like pocket informant?

Because it allows people who have grown used to a certain type of PIM interface to seamlessly migrate to the Pocket PC. Datebk4 would be killer too. But that has too many Palm OS hooks, not sure it would be the same. Just because the Pocket PC has PI and AF, doesn't mean that there isn't room for more. Having ActionNames and Datebk4 on the PPC would cause a mass migration of Palm users. etc. I'd like to see iSilo, all the TealPoint apps and the Handmark apps and etc. But they are all Palm OS 'stick in the muds' (esp. Handmark), putting ideology before the market.

Because it would give Palm users one less excuse not to switch. :)

(and when people get used to an interface, they are reluctant to switch)

I don't think I've ever heard of Action Names, and I've been using Pocket PC's for over a year now. Then again I never owned a Palm.

My .02

I loved Action Names, it put an amazing amount of info on the screen of my Palm IIIx. The interface is slick and fast. The views are intuitive. I found the method used to link contacts much faster and easier to use. I think that it would be spectacular to see this on a big bright PPC color screen.

I moved on to an EM-500 in Jan 2001. I was shopping for an Action Names replacement after about 2 hours of dealing with the standard PPC PIMS. I have tried in the past and will continue to try Pocket Informant as it develops into v3.0. I use Agenda Fusion right now and I am fairly pleased with it. If Action Names came out for PPC I'd be first in line to give it a ride. It remains to be seen if they could actually translate (actually, replicate) it for the PPC. But I am begging them to give it a shot! Heck, MS should pay them to develop it just to attract more Palm devotees using software as a reason not to switch.
