http://www.zurado.com/

"Zurado Systems announced the PXT Portal, software that transforms smartphones into programmable transponders for communicating all sorts of personal and professional information upon request. PXT-which stands for "please explain that"-is a proximity-based technology that provides smartphone users complete control
over the type of information they receive. Unlike other proximity-based systems that push unsolicited content to mobile phones, the PXT Portal delivers information only upon the user's request, precisely when and exactly what they request."

Wouldn't it be nice to get content when you want it and not when it's just pushed to you? According to their article, with PXT Portal you don't need WiFi, GPS, or 3G. Users within a range of 30 feet of the PXT Portal can then choose to access the content via the PXT Probe, a data reader. Both the PXT Portal and Probe software runs on Windows Mobile-based smartphones and PDAs that support the native Microsoft Bluetooth stack. Is this going to be the next big thing? I remember when I used to subscribe to PointCast (remember that?) years ago. That was supposed to be the next big thing and now it's...well...I'm not really sure where it is now. Hopefully for Zurado this will last a while.
