No, seriously: as of 5PM Eastern Time today, you'll be able to hit the attached link and download Windows Mobile 6 (an official ROM, finally) for your old-skool BlackJack in all its glory. For folks not in need of the II's GPS, the upgrade should breathe new life into a handset that still holds its own in the smartphone pack, and for some time now, has been just one small upgrade away from avoiding the proverbial glue factory. Let us know how it goes, updaters!"<br /><br /></em><img border="0" alt="" src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/500/spt/auto/1198279034.usr8.jpg" /><br /><br />Woohoo! I think it is safe to say that all of the original AT&T Samsung Blackjack owners can finally breathe a sigh of relief. While everyone has been telling us an update is on the way, times were starting to look bleak as Samsung and AT&T released an upgraded version of the older hardware. Normally once a company does that, there is no reason to upgrade the previous generation's software. Luckily for us though, Samsung and AT&T (and of course, Microsoft) stepped up to the plate and decided to not only release a software update for their older hardware, but didn't <a href="http://smartphonethoughts.com/news/show/32069/all-that-apple-stuff-today.html">charge us an arm and a leg</a> for it either! <br /><br /><strong>NOTE: </strong>The update <em>will not</em> be available for download until after 5:00PM Eastern Standard Time! Please keep in mind that if you try to download the update now, you will only download the Windows Mobile 5 update!

I haven't heard anything, but heres hoping! If not I remember at one point we reported on downloadable version of Office Mobile that worked like a champ. Now what I'm really hoping is that this update is for Windows Mobile 6.1 that we heard so much about a few weeks ago :)

Never thought I would see the day. Just checked the calendar to make sure it isn't April 1. I'm curious, does anyone still care? I got sick of waiting a ditched my Blackjack for a WM 6 device about a month ago. I wonder how many did the same?

how's someone who's runing vista suppose to upgrade it?
i mean it's been over a year since vista was released and people who want to upgrade phones would most likely fit into the demographic that has vista.

I'm installing the upgrade now. Like you, I cannot believe they're not supporting Vista. That's pretty lame. But so is delivering an upgrade over 6 months late :)

Let's hope for a smooth upgrade...

... Well, I'm stuck at installing the Samsung Modem drivers. I've tried on 2 XP machines with no luck. So I'll have to get on the horn with Samsung Tech Support in the morning to try to make more progress. Frustrating, but I've waited over 6 months... what's another night?

Installed without a hitch. WM Office is included :)

And for me, best of all, they fixed the Bluetooth Stack :)
My Garmin Nuvi 660 can now "see" the phonebook in the Blackjack. Before it couldn't, I just had basic hands free capability with the Nuvi and BJ, I had to manually enter in a number to dial from the screen of the Nuvi. Now I can call up the phone book and just tap the name to dial :)

Hey, the location feature on Google maps works now! Not sure if it is due to the version of maps I just downloaded or the WM6 upgrade, but it works.

My first thoughts are here: http://www.edgeblog.net/2008/blackjack-wm6-first-looks/ Including a list of 10 reasons to upgrade.

No, it's only for the AT&T (or Cingular if you bought it at the start) BlackJack - i607.
