Before I invest a substantial amount of time downloaded and trying any of the SlySoft products, I thought I'd ask anyone who has used them regularly...

I want to rip DVDs (my own, thank you) for playback on my Pocket PC, my PSP, and the Zune 2 (when I get one). It looks like the SlySoft products will do the necessary formats, but browsing the forums at SlySoft suggests that it may not do them very well or very easily. (I currently use the PQ DVDs apps -- one each for Pocket PCs and for PSPs -- and while they work well and reasonably quickly, I'd rather have one app that can handle all mobile devices -- like SlySoft's CloneDVD Mobile -- as opposed to updating both of the PQ DVD apps.)

So, SlySoft users: Can the apps handle decent, easy output for Pocket PC? For PSP? For Zune? Also, with the new PSP Slim having video output, and the Zune still having video output, can you select an output resolution -- 720 x 480 -- that will look good on both the mobile device and the big screen, or are you stuck with the device's native resolution?

Any input would be appreciated!

First off, you won't be spending a 'substantial' amount of time downloading and testing the programs. They download quick and are even quicker to learn and use. And the demo version is fully-functional. I downloaded the demo, ripped my first DVD and pretty much immediately bought the registration keys. It was that convincing that fast.

As for your other questions... Yes, it handles easy output for PPC, PSP and Zune. You simply select what resolution you want the final rip to be (it automatically handles the aspect ratio, so it knows when you're trying to rip a 16:9 or a 4:3 DVD) and click Go. As for outputting to a TV, yes it will certainly give you a good rip, provided your device can output that resolution to a TV. The Zune, for example, does not output to a TV in full 720x480 resolution. You're stuck with the resolution it converts the file to. If you're using an Archos (or other less restrictive) product that can handle 720x480 files natively, you'll have no problem.

I highly recommend these products for someone who doesn't want to spend all their spare time manually ripping DVDs. But hey, don't take my word for it, just try them this weekend. I pretty much guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Slysoft products work GREAT on anything other than Microsoft products...they've only JUST recently added a WMV export option. It works great for me, but it took them a long time to get it working properly because the WMV encoder is such a piece of crap - every media developer I talk with curses at it. But, that said, it's working now. They haven't enabled it with device profiles yet - so you can select WMV export and set it to 320 x 240 and select a bit rate, but they don't yet have a Pocket PC profile that will select WMV and set it for you.

The Zune 2 will support h.264 natively on the device without the need for transcoding, so I'm sure Slysoft will have support for it quite quickly.

As Damion said, the products are very simple to use, and the trials are full-featured, so the best thing to do is just download the demos and take 'em for a spin.
