That group is now even larger, as Western Digital announces that all its dual-drive My Book external hard drives are now available in 2 TB capacities. The dual-drive models are handily identified by the Roman numeral II after their name, so the models offering 2 TB of storage are the My Book World Edition II, My Book Pro Edition II, and the My Book Premium Edition II. The dual-drive systems can be set up for RAID 1 data mirroring, which halves the capacities of the units but provides real-time data redundancy. The World Edition II offers network sharing capabilities which can operate without a host computer, so users can access their files remotely via the Internet."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/cgg-mybook-072607.jpg" /><br /><br />These look sweet and I've been wanting to try one out for a while. RAID makes it great for all sorts of backups and the massive size and sharing capabilities make it ideal for storing all your media. If any of you already have one, I'd love to know what you think.

I actually got the 500 GB version of this for my DVR. My cable company just updated the DVR firmware to include external drives. I saw a great deal on the mybook and picked it up.

So far it has been great. Effortless set up and my DVR went from 67% full to 4% full.

Oh, wow. That's amazing that your cable company DVR can use external drives! My cable company (Shaw) doesn't let their DVR work with, well, ANYTHING.

I have the Premium II with dual 500GB drives, striped for 1TB of storage. If I could do it over again, I'd prefer to buy two separate single-drive My Books (I already had a single when I bought the II). The dual-drives are *very* loud, and run exeptionally hot. I have no idea why they are so much louder than the single drives, but the dang thing sounds like a B52 taking off when it first turns on.
