If you assume that the earphones that shipped with your MP3 player are completely useless, which most of them are, then even the entry level Shure SE units will give you a massive increase in audio quality. And comparing the SE210s to various bundled earphone sets that I have knocking around in the office, it’s fair to say that they’re in a completely different league."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/shure4307.jpg" /><br /><br />I know Shure's seem very expensive, but trust me, the difference is noticeable. I noticed a big difference going from some $20 Sony's up to a set of Sennheiser's a year or so ago. At the end of last year I got a screaming deal on a set of Shure E3c's and noticed another big jump in quality. Based on the review, this set of entry level Shure's should more than satisfy.

Well, i've been interested in upgrading my ZVM's default earbuds cause I use them when I am on the go or at my job (The big ole Sen 280pro and grado 80 are just to big to be portable). I found these through froogle for $112 at keenzo.com . Any earbud conasures think this is a good plan or got a better recommendation? I am expecting close to my Sen 280's sound quality here. ^^

I can 100 percent relate chris. I use to be one of those people happy with my awia or sony head phones...until I walked in j&amp;r with the train of thought to spend some money. so I got my first pair of Sennheiser's. And let me tell you....they've been the best things I've had for a while, been through 2 upgrades. but a month ago I got a craaazy deal on the Bose Q3's....got em for 200...let me tell you....SPEND YOUR MONEY!!! you would never be able to imagine how much these things bring you music alive. its a whole new experience.

I've tried Shures, but never really liked them. But one important thing is this:

Never ever buy them blind! IEMs are a very personal thing, and along with your own psycho-acoustic tastes, the shape of your ear canal means that certain IEMs may not work as well as others.

You really need to listen to them in person with *your* (not mine, not anyone else's) favourite tracks and types of music. The best is if you can test different ones at the same time; that way you can really decide on what you like among all the differing brands and models of phones.

Case-in-point: Everyone says the ER-6s are lacking in bass, but personally, the 6P (not the inferior 6i) to me was an extremely balanced IEM with good refined mids, clear treble, and a bass that was thumpy enough for me (the Super.fi 3s, my original choice to replace my dead Panasonics, in contrast were totally dead in the bass department). So, trust your ears and tastes, and no one else's.

I just bought the Bose Triport around ear headphones for work, man those things are awesome! They block as much sound as my Philips noise-canceling headphones and have a much better balanced and overall sound and are extremely comfortable.

I also bought the Philips SHE9500 ear buds for the gym, and wow, those things sound great too, best earbuds I've used (and they were only $30). They don't fall out like my iPod earbuds used to and they are really comfortable, my ears don't get fatigued after 5 minutes. But the one thing I can't figure out those is the best way to run the wires, one line is shorter than the other and that end always seems to start pulling on my ear after a while, so I have to keep adjusting the wire to give it more slack. Any tips for the best way to run the wires?

I couldn't find a store around here that carried Sennheiser, otherwise I would have given them a shot too. But I highly recommend both of these headphones.

"I just bought the Bose..."

I stopped at that point. ;)

Lee..as much as that is great advice... where am I supposed to find good headphones local? Theres a reason I've had to mail order all my good audio gear, and it wasn't because of price. ;)

I bought my Sennheiser's at Amazon. They were like half price, so I was willing to risk it and was not disappointed. I got the Shure's at Target of all places. I really wanted to try them and figured if they were not worth it, I could easily return them. I was again, not disappointed. Granted, I found them on a clearance rack and paid under $50 for them, but if you listen to them a lot, I really think they are worth the $200 they originally sold for. Ideally, you would like to be able to try them all out and pick, but unfortunately, both for cost and hygienic reasons, that really is not going to happen.
