Making their Blu-ray debuts on August 15 are the deep sea thriller 'Into the Blue,' and Paul Verhoeven's cult classic 'RoboCop.' Both will include 1080p encoded transfers and PCM 5.1 surround uncompressed soundtracks (traditional Dolby Digital 5.1 options are also provided for both releases). 'Into the Blue' will also contain all of the same features as the standard DVD release, including a filmmaker commentary and a featurette, though extras have not yet been announced for 'RoboCop.' Neither title will include any exclusive HD content."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/robocop.gif" /> <br /><br />I'd like to issue an open request to every movie studio with plans to release movies in High Definition: stop re-releasing crappy movies! No one cares if they can get 'Into the Blue' or 'RoboCop' in HD! Give us Star Wars, Star Trek, James Bond, Mission Impossible, Casablanca, Lord of the Rings, IMAX...movies we actually want to watch <i>more than once</i>. The last thing I want to do is drop $30 on an HD movie disc, then feel like I wasted two hours of my life in front of the idiot box.

Robocop was an AWESOME movie! :way to go: Though it's kinda' old so I'd be surprised if it looked very good in HD...

You should be thankful that the studios aren't putting out their top-shelf titles in high definition format yet. We're in a format war, so they're rushing out titles just to have something for early adopters to play. They're not going to put out the good stuff until they are certain that the end product will be heads and shoulders better than the DVDs that most collectors already have. If they screw up Robocop, it would be bad but they can survive that. If they screw up Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, that could kill off the format by itself.[/i]

A big  here.

If I'm going to re-buy my favorite classics, I want more than a sharper transfer. DVD was a great format over VHS, but extras really made the biggest difference for us movie freaks.
