Dave Zatz has posted that TiVo appears to be releasing an updated version of the Series 2 TiVo that has some significant feature improvements. First, the 180 hour maximum recording capacity is a nice place to start. The included Ethernet and USB ports will make wiring your TiVo to your network a bit easier than before. Finally, the new TiVo will also support two TV tuners in the same box, a feature previously exclusive to DirecTiVo boxes. It's not clear if the two tuners will require a higher monthly fee, but it's at least an improvement that is about 3 years late. Better late than never, right?"

Sources say we'll see these before the end of March. Outstanding. Better late than never...but TiVo better start playing catchup soon, otherwise they're going to lose the hardware battle. Feature enhacements like this (and CableCard support, and HD support...) are far too long in coming. They need to push R&D if they're going to maintain that competitive edge.

This is nice, but I'm still waiting for Tivo to support WPA encryption for use with my WiFi network. Have they added that to this update?
