This release introduces a number of new bundled widgets, but mainly is focused on branding the Yahoo! name and services into the widget framework. The new Maps feature is a direct clone of Google maps, I must say. (Click on the screenshot above for a full look.)

I just downloaded the software on my machine and I am very impressed. It works almost exactly like Dashboard in OSX Tiger. Well, almost. My only gripe is that, unlike Dashboard, Yahoo! Widgets does not hide its widget interface when you don't want them on your desktop. However, you can set it to hide widgets manually by setting each widget's window preferences to "Show only in heads up display" mode.

Stocks not doing so well...

How's the memory useage? The old version needed 8MB for each widget, has this been improved? I stopped using V2 due to its memory consumption.

As did I. Widgets were always neat to customize and look at for a few seconds at a time, but their functionality really declined after that.

It varies - sometimes between 1-2MB to 14-15MB. If you have a computer stocked full of RAM, it shouldn't be a problem.

I like that desktop wallpaper. Where did you get it?

I can't recall where I got this wallpaper from, but since so many of you have asked for it....

Enjoy! :)

Yeah, I'm a sucker for this wallpaper - it's quite unlike the Christmas I'd experience here, down under. Thanks for sharing, Kent! :)

Sweet! :)

Except my tablet only does 1400x1050, not quite 1680x1050. So I have to live with the ends chopped off. I guess there are worse things to have chopped off. ;)
