<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/1707/bittorrent_goes_anti-piracy' target='_blank'>http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/1707/bittorrent_goes_anti-piracy</a><br /><br /></div><i>"BitTorrent founder and CEO Bram Cohen and Motion Picture Association of America CEO Dan Glickman announced an agreement between BitTorrent and the MPAA to attempt to curb online piracy by preventing the discovery of illegal movie files through the popular Peer to Peer protocol (via Digital Lifestyles). After the legal struggles and downfalls of distribution networks like Kazaa and eDonkey, BitTorrent technology came to the forefront as the tool of choice for delivering nefarious content online while maintaining anonymity. The technology has the distinct characteristic of being server-less, making it much harder to track down the publisher of the files and even harder to find someone to sue. The technology has been a bane for the Music and Movie industry."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/bittorrent.jpg" /><br /><br />I am sure this will have little effect, since people will either find a workaround within BitTorrent, or move on to something else. But, from a legal perspective this will demonstrate due diligence on their part and hopefully protect them from some lawsuits and perhaps be the beginning of an actual cooperative venture.

Legally, this is a good thing because Bit Torrent has legitimate file-serving purposes. Star Trek: New Voyages, for example, is distributed using the Bit Torrent client.

Right Chris?

Great example, imperium, like I said, it is a good demonstration of doing due dilegence. Had not known about New Voyages, on my way to get them now.

Don't forget the Star Trek spoof, Star Wreck - In the Pirkinning (http://www.starwreck.com) which went from zero to hero and is now the most viewed Finnish movie of all time (http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-5966670.html). The movie is distributed via BitTorrent with great success and the whole movie is free for all to download. The special effects aren't too bad either for a amateur movie of this small scale.

as far as I know.. this is primarly only effecting bittorrents search site. Not the protocal or client itself wich has no search capabilities built in.

Also, Linux.

Most distros I've tried and DL'd were through BitTorrent. Way faster than conventional FTP!
