It seems Samsung and Apple had a late-night romp and nine months later, Samsung pops out this LCD display design. The SM770P is a 17-inch screen while the SM970P is a 19-inch display. These LCDs have a few more features than an Apple Cinema Display, though. Full rotation options are available thanks to a triple-hinge design, cables are neatly hidden, no buttons are available aside from one that glows on the base of the monitor, and then there are those contrast ratios of 1500:1 and 1000:1. Totally sweet. They won’t break the bank too much, either, at $445 and $635."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/samsungLCD-thumb.jpg" /><br /><br />Great design, but how come whenever someone comes up with a simple, minimalistic design, it is suggested that they are copying Apple.

Because it does look very similar to Apple's current cinema displays

Yeah, but I think two teams of designers working completely independently on the same product with the goal of a minimalistic design would tend to converge on very similar designs.

Product comparisons are made all the time. No biggie.

True but sometimes they can be annoying depending on:
- who is making it
- the attitude
- the accuracy

For example, the XBOX 360 is contantly referred to by the general media as being iPOD-like. Yet anybody who has seen and touched the 360 knows it is nothing like the pod; instead of a glossy white like the pod, the 360 is actually an icy-looking, pearlescent white. If anything, it is closer to the Rio Carbon Pearl than the iPod.

But since it is a shade of white and looks good, "of course it is an attempt to copy the ipod!" ;-)

This does annoy some folks who favor precision in their comparisons.
The rest of us just think the folks doing the mis-comparisions are a buncha: :)
(I wonder if that smiley will still show up next week.)
