Songbird is developed by Pioneers of the Inevitable, a small, chirpy team of digital media innovators whose previous incubations include the Winamp 5 and Y! Music Engine media players and Muse.Net, a location-independent digital media network service acquired by Yahoo!. neat on the open source part! Saddly I lothe juke box programs. Sometimes it can be such a pain to get smooth perfect video playback going on, especialy if like me you are on a rather underpowered laptop, so I need as least of a resource intensive player as possible. Also in general when I want to play a movie, or que some music, I don't want to load a large player that not only takes time to load, but consumes a fare amount of memory at the same time.

Is it me, or does the interface look almost exactly like iTunes? Look at the top portion of the application.. and the sidebar.

The sidebar is a WMP-style file-tree structure.
So its half iTunes half WMP.
What? You expected something original?

Its all about reverse-engineeing other people's products; its easier to copy other people's efforts (MS, Apple, Adobe, SUN, AT&T) than going to the trouble of designing something original from scratch.
<shrug>
"Me too" products don't usually inspire me one way or another...

I'm comfortable with WMP10 as is and while I don't particularly care for Apple's design philosophy, at least they *usually* do their own designs.
