It's a geek tradition to take lurid photos from every angle of the unpacking of new tech hardware, so in that spirit I present to you photos of the Xbox 360 I purchased yesterday, what I got in the box, and what the initial boot up was like. I also have some videos that show it in action, specifically the media-related portions. Watch for 'em, and feel free to ask questions about what you're seeing in the photos. Each image links to the full 6MP version so you can scope out all the detail. ;-)<br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-001.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-001_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-002.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-002_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><!><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-003.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-003_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-004.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-004_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-005.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-005_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><PAGEBREAK><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-006.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-006_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-007.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-007_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-008.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-008_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-009.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-009_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-010.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-010_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><PAGEBREAK><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-011.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-011_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-012.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-012_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-013.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-013_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-014.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-014_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-015.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-015_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><PAGEBREAK><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-016.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-016_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-017.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-017_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-018.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-018_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-019.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-019_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-020.JPG"><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/xbox-pr0n-020_resize.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><i>Jason Dunn owns and operates <a href="http://www.thoughtsmedia.com">Thoughts Media Inc.</a>, a company dedicated to creating the best in online communities. Dang! I really want one now. :(

By the way, is that... an Xbox stress ball?

I'm was thinking the same thing. Now I'm thinking maybe it's a gift to the dogs of the gamers?

Yes. That's what I got from Zellers for standing in line at 6:45 AM. ;-)

It's a USB dongle that covers the a/b/g spectrum, and is a separate purchase no matter which bundle you get. I have an ethernet port behind my TV, so thankfully I don't need wireless - which is a good thing considering how cursed my house seems to be with WiFi... ;-(

This is getting expensive now - for some reason I thought the wireless thing was included - that'll be another £50 then I expect.

Oh well guess what the wife and kids are getting for Xmas then

Wireless for the controllers is built-in; WiFi wireless isn't.

Considering that wireless networking is evolving and newer faster protocols are coming (to say noting of the incremental cost of building it in) I rather prefer the snap-on module approach. (Especially since I'm going to go wired to ensure best video streaming throughput...) ;-)

Felix - completely agree - I did know that it was a add on bit (not built in) - I just had it in my mind that this was included in the premium pack.

No wonder I thought it was really good value for money compared to the core pack (even though it still is - sorry Jason I know you only got a core :) )

Actually if had stopped to think about it for a minute, it doesnt make sense to have something like that included.

Well, the competition is doing it and a lot of people in the media have critisized MS for not doing it, so the issue is not that clear cut, apparently. 8)

I was able to get my hands on (purchase) the Xbox 360 Deluxe. It wasn't easy because I hadn't preordered it. I ended up driving an hour round trip to our 24hr Wal-Mart. I stood in line from 8 until 10 pm, only to find out I was number 35 and they only had 32 units. Disappointed, I drove back home and camped out (10:30 p.m.) at my home town Wal-Mart (Fairfield, Iowa) until they opened at 7 a.m. Yep! I got it. Did I mention how cold it is in Iowa in November and they only had 2 units?

I found that the headset that comes with it seemed to produce an "echo". I switched to my old "live" headset and it worked better.. &lt;hum?>.

Excited to try my Terminator 2 Extreme Edition WMVHD disc, I loaded it and found it didn't work. I then tried my Storm Chaser disc, no luck either! :(

Now, I tried connecting my 2003 SE Pocket PC (Imate JAM) only to find out it didn't work for me either.

On the bright side, this is one heck of a machine! Oh, rumors are flying about a February box update (store employee mentioned it). If you purchased the memory kit, I understand kiosks are going to be set up where you can download free content. There's a very good selection of videos you can download for the Xbox Marketplace. I'm still figuring out the currency they are using... MS bucks &lt;kidding>

Diane~

Oh, and I got one of those Wal-Mart Laptops for $378 + $10 case. My birthday was the 23rd and I turned 50! It was a glorious week!
