The software has been heavily criticised for using techniques more associated with hackers rather than corporate giants. Declaring war on the rootkit in the company's malware blog, Jason Garms Architect &amp; Group PM of the Anti-Malware Technology Team said that Microsoft regards the Sony DRM as malicious code and planed to treat it as such. According to Garms, Redmond's position on the Sony rootkit DRM could not be any clearer. Microsoft will add a detection and removal signature for the rootkit component of the XCP software to the current Windows AntiSpyware beta. This signature will be provided to the millions of AntiSpyware users through the normal weekly Windows signature update process."</i><br /><br /> Oh my, this is priceless! By treating the customers who buy this CD like criminals and infesting their systems with DRM software, Sony is now reaping what they've done: they're being treated like criminals. I couldn't be happier.

While I agree in general, I'm disappointed that Microsoft didn't come out against this sooner. Sony's already "decided" to stop shipping the DRM, so MS is just cleaning up loose ends.

I wonder if MS would have done anything if Sony had stuck to their guns...

It amazes me that Sony has the gall to do something like this. I'd like to know how many Sony executives had a say so in this... And then I'd like to upload some malacious code to their computers and let them break'em while trying to remove it.

Jerks.

Oh, things get even better:

The way Sony expects customers to remove their Spyware is to open the computer completely to any web page that wants to install stuff on their box.

This is not going to end well for Sony.

You couldn't make this stuff up!

So, what will Sony do next? They've shot themselves in both feet, :2gunfire: been publicly pelted with tomatoes :splat: and have generated huge volumes of flames against the company. :onfire:

What's the encore going to be?
