View Full Version : Looking for a multi-HD drive enclosure (USB2.0) that support RAID5

I have a few (4) external USB hard drives that I'd like to combine into a single drive. I'm looking for a drive enclosure that will take all four drives and present them as a single drive via a USB2.0 or Firewire connection. I would remove the drives from their current single-drive enclosures so I'm essentially looking for an enclosure that accepts 3.5" IDE drives.

I would also like some level of redundancy available to me. I believe (and this is where my expereience lacks) that means I want RAID5. As I understand it, RAID0 and RAID1 won't do it for me.

I have found a couple of units that seem to fit the bill, but none that have RAID5. THe closest to the mark I've found is a unit that will attach via a single USB connection and the drives will each appear individually. I could then use a software solution to RAID them, but I would prefer a hardware-based solution.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
