The new arrivals include the 5GB Zen Neeon, a 20GB version of its Zen Micro, this time simply dubbed the Zen, and a Zen-branded version of its MuVo V200. Creative claimed the Neeeon is the smallest hard drive-based player it has yet offered. The black 8 x 4.7 x 1.6cm, 75g shell contains a 5GB drive, FM radio, microphone and line-in port for direct-to-MP3 encoding. The unit features a basic two-line display, but users can select from seven backlight colours. Creative will offer further levels of customisation by selling a range of stickers to slap on the front of your Neeeeeon, much like the ones HP sells for its iPods. There are ten backplate colours to choose from too."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/neeon.jpg" /> <br /><br />Pretty small for an HD based player. Some comparison shots would be helpful though. Be sure to check out the story if you want to see the stickers that they have designed for it. Sure to appeal to the key 10-year old female demographic.

Sure to appeal to the key 10-year old female demographic.

And a slightly older crowd, too.
(like 18-25)
Young working japanese females have their own rules for self-expression that run a wee bit different from their western counterparts.
Hello Kitty isn't just for pre-teens, there...

I'm guessing Creative has an idea or three of what constitutes a "cool" fashion statement in their near-home markets.

That said, the bare player itself has a nice aesthetic all its own for those of us that prefer shiny ebony to titanium white.

And 16 mm is pretty thin for a player.
If they apply the same aestheric (and a larger color screen) to the 40gb ZEN, they'd likely get my business.

Nor in the US, my wife happens to love Hello Kitty (in addition to here gigantic Barbie doll collection). I would imagine that since it is only release in Singapore right now, their might be additional skins available as it penetrates other markets.

While I do dig the slick looking faceplate, I am quite curious about how you go about selecting tracks, volumn and such. In addition, two lines of text? Wouldn't that make it hard to scroll through a bunch of albums/artist/song titles? Maybe that doesn't matter as much.

Anyhoots. Be cool to see a more indepth review when this hits closer to home.

No way they spelled 'neon' wrong. That is so cool. I'm off to go buy one right now!

Why do companies think that purposely spelling things wrong make it hip?

Because people like you will buy it if the product name includes a misspelling ;)
