Has your project been put on hold due to the ocean of choices to make between capture cards, computer cases and software for the HTPC? Then it might be time for you to read the Home Theater PC Guide over at 2CPU. The guide takes up hardware requirements, your four major choices in software and more.

This is a very comprehensive and detailed article on the choices you need to make for a HTPC. I thought the comparison between the four software choices was the most interesting part; MythTV looks especially interesting on the feature side.

I may give mythtv a try. I jumped from beyond tv to sage a few months back because sage has a plugin that aloows the hauppage mvp's to be clients which was a big plus for me. $99 and I can hookup a tv that'll interface into my sage system. I know beyond tv has a skin for it and you can view recorded shows but it doesn't act like a full client. It would be nice if they could get the mvp to work like byond tv link. Still sage is working well for me but I'm about to setup a system at my parents house so I need to cover all the bases.

I wonder why he didn't talk about Snapstreams BeyondMedia as opposed to BeyondTV. Or even mention it for that matter. It seems to fall under his definition of HTPC versus PVR.
