View Full Version : Portable Firewire drive for a camcorder?

I've read (somewhere) about an external, portable drive that connects to a camcorder via Firewire and, essentially, acts as a very large tape. It is available (I think) as 40 or 80Gb units but I'm darned if I can find out who makes it.

Anyone else come across this?

I remember hearing about it as well, but I don't recall who was doing it - and several Google searches later, I still can't find any information. Every search term I tried brings up external firewire hard drives for video work...not one that connects directly to the camera. :?

I've managed to find a few now:

ADS PYRO DV Drive (http://www.adstech.com/products/API_820/intro/API820intro.asp?pid=API820)

Laird CapDiv DV to Disk Recorder (http://www.lairdtelemedia.com/Product.asp?cat=VIDEOEQUIP&subcat=&prodClass=VHDISK&search=0&off=0&baseItem=LTM%2DCPDV3B)

Focus FireStore (http://www.focusinfo.com/products/firestore/firestore.htm)

They aren't cheap, though :-(.
