I guess it is retro cool, but then again I have almost no fond memories of my old Walkmans....

Interesting. There is no chance I'd buy one but I think there is still some life left for tapes. I still use my Jeep tape player when driving down unpaved roads and trails because it's 100% anti-skip. Tapes must be pretty durable too. I keep the soft top off for most of the year and have 4 tapes I use often. Those 4 tapes have been in my dusty Jeep for about 4 years now and still play. Did I mention I live in the desert?

Ehh? survive better under WHAT conditions? You know the oldest form of portable mp3 playing has been solidstate, that pretty much nullifies any good points the tape might of had. And todays portable solidstates are smaller and contain enough memory to exceed the length of an audio tape, and it sounds better too.

deck players might be a stickler, but a few select decks like one sony has supports solid state mp3 playback via memory stick. And there are many FM transmitters.

Forget 'fond memories'... Does anyone actually have any old tapes anymore? (sundown excluded  )

If I could find any of my old ones I'm sure they'd still play, but I sure wouldn't want to play them. My musical tastes have sure changed over the years... :rock on dude!:

"Tapes"? What are these ancient music devices you talk about?
