They effectively completed the transition of the entry-level computer into a commodity. To the average joe, the Mac mini isn't a computer - it's another iPod or DVD player, just a lot better and a lot more feature-filled. It's a DVD player that can edit and create DVDs, and it's an iPod that can make and play music, and it's a box that you can retrieve your email. To the rest of us, it's a small, quiet, stylish looking box that finally breaks down the price barrier to Mac OS X. As a second system for any PC user, the Mac mini can't be beat."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/IMG_1459.jpg" /><br /><br />The Mac mini has certainly drawn attention from the PC enthusiast community, and so far it's getting rave reviews. My Mini shipped out last night (from China), and it should be here next Wednesday. Look for my review to follow in the coming weeks. :)

Sounds good. Are you going to run any benchmarks? Having purchased a 20" iMac G5 in November I've been a bit underwhelmed by the G5 in routine tasks. (email, web, etc) Although apps like iPhoto and iMovie run much better.

I'm not trying to trash-talk your new computer, but Apple's hype machine is always in overdrive where they talk about the raw power of their CPUs. The truth is that there's so much more to computer performance than just the CPU - hard drive speed, RAM speed, bus speed, video card, etc.

Yeah I'm aware of that. They also chose a slower FSB so as not to compete with the G5 Power Mac. Let me be clear though that this machine is fast, but not day/night difference from my G4 based PowerBook..

Not trying to trashtalk your trashtalk, but I am running a 3+ ghz P4 setup with 2gb ram, 200gb hard drive, latest ATI card.. Clean install of XP Pro on it too.. It's pathetic given what its supposed to be.. Bloatware slows it down (OS, MS Office apps, etc..).. I boot into linux and it cooks like a hotdamn..

Yeah, I found Linux to get quite snappy when I was using it too - then after a few hours of clicking around I realized there were no friggin' apps for me to do any WORK with so I gave up and went back to an OS meant for real work. ;-)
