I've also read that Dr. DivX also encodes the file fine without problem.

Dr. DivX is one of the few softwares that I do buy and highly recommend to others.

I'm always interested in the legality of these sorts of things. If you have DRM'd media, are you allowed to convert it and remove the DRM? I know this is the whole moral vs. legal dilemma again, but it still bugs me. I'm one of the few people in my age group who actually tries to follow the law when it comes to digital media....so yeah, I understand most people don't care about the legality of this. ;)

Anyway, cool application. :P

It's a tough question to answer. I think this falls into the category (my uninformed option mind you) of "fair use".

This will only work on files that don't have the broadcast flag on them (I think), so I wouldn't worry about the legality of it all - they're just TV shows that you're recording from your own cable signal...
