Don't let them linger in oblivion. Share them with others, using photo slide-show software. The programs can turn digital photos into a great last-minute gift this holiday or become ideal tools to share the dozens of images of family and friends you're bound to be snapping over the next couple of weeks. This cool software will allow you to share your photo-oriented creations with friends and family via the Internet or get them to loved ones without PCs on a disc with a slide show. They can then view it on their TV using a DVD player. I took a look at three programs this week, creating Christmas presents for my family."

This article looked at three software packages: Magix PhotoStory on CD and DVD 2005, Photodex ProShow Gold, and Ulead CD & DVD PictureShow 3 Photo Album and Slideshow Suite Deluxe. Could some of these products possibly get longer product names? At any rate, I'll spoil the surprise for you: ProShow Gold won. That's not surprising, because I've used it and it's very powerful. It's unfortunate, though not surprising, that they didn't mention PhotoStory 3, the free software from Microsoft that does most of what people need. It's quite limited in some days (no CD or DVD burning), but if the goal is to make a simple slideshow with nice transitions and music, PhotoStory 3 is an excellent tool.

There are choices out there for the Mac user as well:

iMovie can make slideshows (and with 3rd party plugins, does a great job); also Photo to Movie and Still Life. I think even Ulead has a package called DVD Picture show that will burn a slideshow directly to VCD or DVD

Thanks for chiming in with the Mac options - I have no clue about the options on that platform. :-)
