Of course I'm not sure they have figured out how to manufacture them, but I guess this war will be fought over content as both now "support" regular DVDs.

I like the bigger capacity of Blu-ray on paper, but without support of the MPAA, it will go the way of DVD-RAM.

Well, it looks like maybe the disc part of my wish could come true per a previous discussion (http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=50260)
...but what about players? It seemed like we were heading firmly down the road where never would the two prior DVD formats ever meet, when Sony managed to prove that dual format burners were possible. What are the odds that we could ever see an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray DVD drive?

Unless I'm misunderstanding the French text and the Japanese picture, it looks as if (somehow) this hybrid has beaten the HD/DVD hybrid.

How? They've managed to retain a high enough DVD capacity (8.5GB) to allow feature films to be stored without needing to recompress. By comparison, the HD/DVD hybrid only had a single DVD layer and therefore reduced the capacity to 4.75GB.

Go Blu-ray :D.

I like the bigger capacity of Blu-ray on paper, but without support of the MPAA, it will go the way of DVD-RAM.
There was an interesting quote from an NEC guy in a UK video magazine. It went along the lines of the fact that the movie studios are going to favour a format that isn't available in a writeable format. NEC are one of the HD-DVD drivers (along with Toshiba), hence the HD-favourable position.

Just gotta be patient, I guess .

I'd love to see a BlueRay type disk in an MD (MiniDisc) sized platter with a cartridge. It would be dense enough to allow for a full length feature film and have the best protection.

Plus it's much easier to handle and doesn't suffer from the box hub cracking the disk!! (got a few of those) or dozens of different box hub mechanisms so badly engineered that they only let go of the disk when they see fit
