Hi,

I had some old photos that I want to touch up and then maybe burn to a CD/DVD and pass to the photo store for reprinting..

Can anyone give me some guide lines as to how I should start?

Thank you!

Well, first you'll want to scan them. I'm not sure what size the originals are, but if you want to print them up to 8 x 10, you'll probably want to scan them in at 300 to 400 dpi (assuming they're 4 x 6 in size). After you scan them in, save them as TIFF or BMP files, NOT JPEGs. Do your editing/adjusting, then when you're happy with the results, save them as JPEGs with minimal compression (10% or so maximum). Then take them in to get printed. :-)

All that Jason said is accurate. One thing I would like to add is that if you have a lot of photos that you want to scan, I would recommend investing in a scanner that has a photo feeder. It is very worth it.
