If they are like me, it's because I saw it as a "Hot Story" in the Weekly Digest dated 9/1 and I didn't realize that it was old news.

How about only keeping those threads open until the winner is picked and then locking it. If someone wants to post something about that contest after that, they can reply to the winner announcement thread.
