Pixels and Rendering Resolution

I have a Sony TRV460 D8 camera that, according to the specs has 460K gross and 290K effective pixels on its CCD.

Now, I'm wondering what resolution to render my movies at (since I get a choice), since I don't want the rendering software to be creating pixels (do I?).

708 x 480 = approx. 340K, and 640x480 = 307K according to my calcs. My gut tells me to get as close as possible to the 290K effective pixels in the specs.

Any ideas? Suggestions?
