For video pros looking to take their productions to the next level, it's worth a serious look. That said, DVD Studio still needs work in several key areas—namely its preview and error-checking capabilities."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/indextop1_04192004.jpg" /><br /><br />For serious DVD authoring, DVD Studio is the ultimate tool - for Macs anyway. I've often wondered how well Apple's pro video tools stack up to their PC counterparts. Vegas Video by Sony (formerly owned by Sonic Foundry) looks like an amazing tool. Could it match, or perhaps surpass Mac software like Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio?

Having used Encore and Vegas' I can say I still prefer DVDSP all around a great product since v. 2.0 before that it was waaaay counter-intuitive but when they overhauled it in v. 2.0 it really has become an awesome piece of software.

I've used it at school (version 2.0) and loved it. Works seemlessly with Final Cut Pro.

Vegas is an awesome tool. I had used Premiere and just hated the interface (a personal opinion). I found Vegas to be really intuitive, and with its compositing tools I rarely use After Effects now.

Also there is really no tool out there that has the audio capabilities of Vegas that are built-in. Lots of audio plugins, plus native 5.1 support, and it is really easy to mix your 5.1 tracks.

Coupled with Vegas DVD Architect it does everything I want, commentary tracks, motion menus, etc.

Go to the Vegas Forum at:

DMN Forums (http://www.dmnforums.com/cgi-bin/displaywwugindex.fcgi?dire=3&forum=sonic-foundry_vegas)

You will see very little complaining about the product, unlike in ther NLE forums.
