The LCD TV is priced 997,500 yen. This will be the world's largest digital high-definition LCD TV. In the wake of the market debut of LC-45GD1, whose image processor and LCD panel as well as its display size demonstrate Sharp's expertise, competition is expected to further increase in the market of large-size flat panel TVs of 40V-inch and more, which has been dominated by plasma TVs."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/201085_040721nbfw1s.jpg" /><br /><br />Hmm, at just under $9K (USD) it is almost free. :-P Seriously though, I remember when plasma screens and other large format flat panel TVs were just being released, they were all for over $11,000. So this doesn't seem like a bad starting point. This LCD TV is Sharp's first product that can show without modification high-definition broadcast, which is interlaced with 1,080 vertical pixels (1,080i). In general though, this is a nice article to read as it does cover a fair bit about HD technology as well as Sharp's policy shift towards high definition technology.

Okay.
That's it.
A 1080P HDTV?
I'm in.
I'm off to buy a lotto ticket...

I have read and heard that plasma screens had a short life span (before image degradation). Does anyone know if these are better now?

This isn't a plasma display; its an LCD.

Those have the same lifespan as a laptop display; something around ten years. The only part that can degrade is the backlight and those are usually replaceable.

I understand that. I guess my prior email was not clear. I was asking the question you answered (lifespan of LCD's)

Thank you.
