However, in an interesting break from Kyocera's form, the Adesso cameras seem to be exceptionally, well, crappy, with the high end model rolling in with a 1.3-megapixel sensor."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/adesso_minis.jpg" /><br /><br />I don't really see who would buy a 1.3MP camera anymore when camera phones can already do more.

I hate using a Emoticon for a response, but...

My only guess is that they will be selling them for about $50 and hope that you will buy them for emergencies, parties, or as gifts for small children.

Honestly, I am planning on buying something like this for my 8 yr old son if the cost is low enough. (To that end, does anyone have recommendations for a sub $100 camera that is not too complex for a pre-teen?)

Check the HP 635 at Tigerdirect.
2MP with 16 Mb onboard RAM, $50 after rebate.
3X Optical zoom, takes movies at 24fps with audio, and nice interface.
Point and shoot easy.
Quality is decent.
