Unlike a number of competitive manufacturers who are experiencing shipment delays due to a shortage of critical parts, AOpen has overcome such limitations through careful planning and negotiations for key components, and is on-schedule to be one of the world's first manufacturers to deliver the new drives this year.

"We've been able to beat all the odds and strategically position the launch of our new AOpen DUW1608/ARR, 16X DL DVD+/-RW burners at the very beginning of the product's life cycle," said Scott Chien, Vice President and General Manager, Optical Storage Devices, AOpen Inc. "We're one of the few manufacturers with a sufficient supply of LDs (laser diodes) and will be one of the first to market as a result."

The new burners feature the fastest currently available write speeds of 16X for various popular recordable disc media including DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, CD-R and CD-RW. The drives also feature an extremely large storage capacity of 8.5GB -- well suited for large data back-ups, movies, music files and wide range of multimedia applications.
<!>
The new AOpen DUW1608/ARR 16X DL DVD Burner is projected to be value-priced with an exceptionally reasonable MSRP of less than $150 USD and will come with a 1-year limited warranty. That certainly is an amazing price point and one that will only be good for consumers and encourage competition :-)

One thing that isn't clear is the capability of the dual-layer feature. Most, if not all, of the drives announced so far can only do either DL +RW or DL -RW. There doesn't seem to be a drive yet that can do dual-layer with both plus and minus formats.

Note that just because a drive can do single layer DVD+/-, doesn't necessarily mean it can do the same with dual layer and that is what I'm waiting for
