Designed for archiving large amounts of data, such as images, video and audio, the 5.25in. (2U format) device connects to your computer using either one of the two FireWire 800 ports or the single FireWire 400 port, and requires no driver or software installation for systems running Windows XP and Mac OS X. Finished in a stylish aluminium case that dissipates heat, the Bigger Disk Extreme comes with a matching stand that allows you to use the drive in either a vertical or horizontal position. Companies interested in the device for backup purposes may be pleased to know that LaCie offers an optional rack-mounting kit that lets you install the drive in a standard 19in. rack. The drive also features an automatic on/off feature that helps to conserve energy and prolong the life of the drive, according to LaCie. A Kensington-type lock is also present for added security either at home or in a busy working environment, and you also get some backup software thrown in.</i>"<br /><br /> <img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/Lacie-Bigger-Disk-Extreme.jpg" /> <br /><br />Archiving data is always a pain. As soon as I burn a DVD or CD, I need the data back on my drive. Well if you have the money (about $1,200) LaCie has the answer to you. Its big (takes up 2U in a rack), but being able to just plug in one device and go is worth something to many people. Just think about what these devices will look like within a year. :way to go:

Where you really need space on backups is for keeping multiple generations. I have 80 GB internal storage on my PC, and a 160 GB external backup drive for multiple generations of backups, plus an external that I use specifically for video and music and another to store specific data that I want to keep inaccessible when I am on the net. Probably approaching .4 TB.

Well....I make it a habbit to make an .iso image of every software i come across, every cd i own, and every driver cd as well. Plus i have 3 servers i have real time back up running on. And i also make a complete back up of my laptop every night. Not to mention almost 34 gigs of music and another 20 gigs of movies and music videos. So the TB thing is really apealing to me. I guess if you look at it... a 300 gig drive goes for 500. And they are using 4 400gig...so thats a deal. I guess i'll pick it up some time after the summer.
