Trying to push the GPU a mere 10MHz further made it fall over in the benchmarks; although it was still possible to push the memory a bit further than its default speed. To verify the speed of the XFX 6800 Ultra I contacted XFX and the reply was that all cards will be clocked at a minimum of 425MHz, but the 450MHz core speed can’t be guaranteed. It’s therefore worth checking before you buy."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/geforce6800.jpg" /><br /><br />It is nice to read this review knowing that Doom 3 is going to be out on August 3 (yes, this year). Yeah, yeah, I know, it is one of those 'I'll believe it when I see it'. I have had both Doom 3 and HL2 on pre-order for months now and it feels like... ok, I am getting off topic here. Anyways, these soon-to-be-released games will truly be able to utilize the horsepower that these new generation of video cards put out. The review clearly shows, from the benchmarks, the awesome power that is the 6800 Ultra, and it is a joy to see that a vendor has finally put a card out with it. It is expensive and in severely short supply, but is so worth it.<br /><br />Sadly for the SFF folk in our midst, the power requirements and size of the card make it unsuitable for you and that of course is a big plus for the ATI x800 series of cards. However, nVidia will be putting out their 6800 GT series soon which will address the above issues.

Actually, I emailed Shuttle tech support and they said that they had tested my unit with both the new GeForce card and the X800 ATI cards, and both worked fine. So I'm hopeful!

I'm pretty much against purchasing any of Nvidia's graphics cards, although they may be a bit technologically ahead. The problems is that their newest cards: Too much heat/noise ratio for my computer case -- most of the GeForce 5xxx cards are too hot and require too noisy cooling for my taste.
"Cheating" in Futuremark's tests -- they call it
"optimizing" but I call it cheating since it seems to be of difference what the Futuremark program's file name is. Granted, removing some polygons that are hidden/not visible is okay, but the way that Nvidia's drivers work just smells rotten. What if they are "optimizing" the great visual experiences away from my favorite games? :x

No thanks, Nvidia. I think I'll go for a quiet Ati graphics card next time I'm shopping for 3D graphics card...
