It plays DVDs, music, all that good stuff, with a projected battery life of 2.5 hours -- not long enough for two movies, but probably just long enough for one. Although portable DVD players are the sort of product that has very limited appeal to me -- if I'm not watching them at home, they I'll probably be watching on a laptop -- I know some people, especially people with kids, get a lot of mileage out of them. My own family has chewed through at least two in the last couple of years keeping my young brother entertained.

Should be available late summer for around for (a too pricey) $325."

I tend to agree with that statement. I usually have my laptop with my so having another device just to play DVDs seems overkill. My son is only 18 months, so maybe in the future I'll understand the theory of SpongeBob in the backseat.

Two details:

1- It has TV-out so it can also replace a non-portable DvD player
2- It plays MP3 files.

That's a 1000 songs per DVD. Plus a darn *big* ID3 tag display.
Properly interfaced its not a bad way to do digital music in the car.

Apex makes some nice stuff for the price.

Doesn't every DVD player made in the past 2 years do this?

Not all the portables do.
