Canon said it planned to pull the plug this summer on the production of two models released in the United States and Europe in January last year. That will make those two models the final analog video cameras produced by the firm. "The advantages that digital technology offers consumers make it the hands-down choice," Canon spokesman Richard Berger said."<br /><br />No surprises here, and for one simple reason: even though the majority of people don't connect their DV cameras to their computers, the advantages of digital over analog (both real and perceived) have made analog video cameras obsolete.

Yea, no surprise. Does anyone buy analog cameras anymore?

If you don't hook up a digital camcorder to a computer, what advantages does it have over analog ones? Most digital camcorders store their information on DV tapes made of the same stuff (approximately) as analog camcorders. In argument to the ones that burn DVDs I have always found that DVDs damage more easily than regular tapes. I know we're all eager to finally bid the analog cameras and camcorders goodbye but as of yet I can't think of advantages aside from computer connectivity.
