The 12" laptops look very tempting now (although, so do the iBooks to save on cost).

Honestly? I'd go for the 15".

The 17" is too big (for me), and the widescreen aspect of the 15" rocks for using programs with lots of toolbars, palettes, etc., like Photoshop, etc. Plus if you do 16x9, you'll be good to go. If you do 4:3, you'll have plenty of room on either/both sides for tools.
